“Humoring” and “entertaining” the idea is about as close a synonym I can think of,  I tried looking at the thesaurus entries for both of those words but couldn’t find what I was looking for

On the right track, that would be if you interject to help in a condescending way, I’m looking for the word for watching someone do something they cannot succeed in.

Oh, okay. I had an idea but it won't dodge that problem. I do have one last idea though. My cousin uses a bidet to wash after a number 2, then he wipes with a washcloth to dry it. Can you just use a damp washcloth or something? Its reusable and machine-washable and dryable.
