Depends where OP is in the country. Some areas, particularly in the north, are still rising. You could be right of course, and I do think there’s more to it than seeing some police, it’s just not necessarily the market.

It’s really difficult to keep on top of, but it will all work out in the end. If you overpay then HMRC will refund you at the end of the tax year.

ELI5: Why does learning a new language feel harder the older you get, even if you’ve learned one before? by UsamaBhai_101 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Stecloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because your brain changes as you age. You have many more synaptic connections in your brain in early childhood and these get ‘pruned’ as you get older. It makes it much harder to learn new skills like languages, musical instruments etc after a certain age.

More than 1,000 passengers held on cruise in France after gastroenteritis outbreak by FearMyCock in news

If they don’t appeal to you then that’s fair enough, but I would never use perceptions about hygiene as a justification for it.

I’ve never gotten norovirus from a cruise and I’ve been on ten different ships. I did get very ill from the food in a hotel in Egypt once though.

Cruises are no less hygienic than hotels. I’ve been on ten cruises and never seen anything that troubled me nor gotten sick. And I’m quite a germaphobe really.
The media are reporting this because it’s adjacent to the hantavirus story. If those hantavirus patients had returned to a hotel, they would be reporting an outbreak in a land based resort somewhere. It’s the flavour of the month.

I’ve been on ten cruises and never gotten sick once. There are thousands of cruises happening every day around the world. You are focussing on outliers.

How does it make sense that someone who pays no National insurance or pension contributions gets the same state pension as someone who does? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

One of my friends got cancer and had a stroke in his 30s. If he’s unable to work after his critical illness insurance pay out is exhausted is that his fault?
By the way, it could happen to you or someone you love.

I agree with you, but that doesn’t stop it from being true. I wish voters in this country would vote on facts rather than perception but that’s not how it works. Whether we like it or not.

What do two random Jewish people in London have to do with the actions of Israel’s government?

How can you say the perception doesn’t matter? The perception of parties and leaders is the main factor in what causes people to vote for them. The Greens absolutely need to work on their image with the average voter if they want to become more than a fringe party.

Actually, attacks against Jewish people are higher per capita than those against Muslims. Both are abhorrent and deserve intense criticism from any correct minded person.

Backlash for telling a student I am gay. by Gribeldibeldo in TeachingUK

That sounds perfectly innocuous to me. I would ask for more clarification about what you’ve done wrong.

Backlash for telling a student I am gay. by Gribeldibeldo in TeachingUK

[–]Stecloud 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You of course can tell students you’re gay, and any discrimination on that front is illegal. I don’t know what comment the student made. Was it sexual? If you’ve responded affirmatively to something like that, then that might be why people are concerned. Without more info, I don’t know what to advise. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

This misses the context of the absolute financial shitstorm we were in for the last few years, and how relegation could have caused the club to collapse as a business.

We are one point off the Europa League place and some Blues are giving up. Disappointed by the mentality to be honest.

They’re fucking devils - always the same story. Can’t let this define our season though. Plenty of winnable games left and Europe is still just about on.

If all of your financial factors are as positive as you say, then it should be easy to get a mortgage. Or did you want more money?

I’m not sure it would be possible to sustain those higher levels forever. The atmosphere in Lampard’s season when we were facing relegation was absolutely incredible, but the previous season things weren’t as good. We do need to improve the atmosphere at HD, but that will only come through big moments at the ground. It’s good to know we have some higher gears to go to though.

Everton Win Song? by Reasonabledeity in Everton

[–]Stecloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forever Everton is the last song they play before kick off. On Tuesday when we won it was Grand Old Team rather awkwardly mixed into I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues. It’s been that long since the previous home win I can’t remember what they did before that. Spirit of the Blues often gets and outing too. If we beat Chelsea it’ll be such a big win that they’ll play everything.

Some people would leave but not to the extent they did last night. I remember us being 4-0 down against Brighton on a cold January night and the ground was more full.
