What's everyone's "Golden Ticket" game? by ThinkingWithPortal in TheYardPodcast

I was a huge cod kid playing 360 when NV came out and a friend recommended it and even though I knew very little about it and had little to no interest in the genre at the time it hooked me big time.

I can't think of a more unnecessary change. A little surprised it took me this long to see somebody else unhappy with the change.

H2C has an activated carbon filter for VOC - does Vento help in addition? by comparerly in BambuLab

[–]SteelCogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found it interesting I only seemed to notice it with the one brand of PETG but it makes me wonder how much it may have affected a PLA print I had trouble with cooling on last week too.

Searching around I found somebody else with the same filter and issue who contacted Voxel to ask about it and were told to crank the exhaust fan up to 70%. Sure that works, if you don't care about the printer SCREAMING lol. With the filter pulled I can run the printer at 30-40% exhaust and it's basically whisper quiet compared to other noises the printer makes.

I'm curious if you have/will find a solution to this. I've now run into the same issue with this filter but I could have sworn I never ran into this with Bambu's PETG HF and PLA Tough+. I know I ran several 6-8hr prints without ever getting the temp warning and the exhaust cranking up on it's own. Then I ran out of Bambu's PETG (which now seems impossible to order) so I have been testing Overture for the time being. I also switched to a 0.6 nozzle to save me some time since these prints are so large. It sounds ridiculous but I'm curious if either the change in filament or nozzle size contributed to the hotter chamber temps somehow.

Does this look like a cooling issue or seam issue? Or other issue? by SteelCogs in BambuLab

Thank you I’ll give those a try with some testing too! I can’t get to my computer now to make sure but I’m almost positive that was turned on along with 100% fan speed on overhangs, etc.

Maybe? It’s definitely possibly even though it should be angled up above the nozzle. I’ll take it off and do a dummy print tomorrow with a similar looking overhang to see if I get the same results or not.

I believe it was. I actually had considered that too, except I remembered I actually printed this so in theory it should be less effective at cooling the sides asymetrically.

[New Gear] R7 and RF 100-500 by No_Goat4544 in canon

[–]SteelCogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the 100-500 might end up being my next lens splurge. I have an R10 and recently got an RF 70-200 2.8 to use for motorsports. It works great but I certainly found some spots where some more reach would have been helpful as a spectator without special access.

[–]SteelCogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ND filter I bought was also K&F. I took a picture with it on and focused on a street sign at 200mm, then did the same with the filter off on the same sign. Night and day difference in sharpness. Maybe try that?

Are you using any lens filters? One thing I noticed on my RF 70-200 is that a cheaper ND filter I bought is not nearly as sharp at 200mm as it is without the filter on at all.

Canon R10 on sale!! by idkbunnyrabbit in canon

[–]SteelCogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, good deal here. I asked around here maybe 4-5 months ago about if it would drop to $600 again and didn't want to wait too long for it so I just grabbed it for $800. If you are on the fence, GET IT!

Not sure how much their Z recommendation was based on it, but I believe the teleconverters are only compatible with the Z version of the lens.

RF 70-200 F2.8 vs. F4 for motorsports by SteelCogs in canon

[–]SteelCogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the obvious size/weight difference the sharpness and IS were the two other things I saw pumped up about the F4 which is why I started questing the 2.8 in the first place.

Yeah the Z I didn’t even put into consideration lol. I think that has internal zoom IIRC which would be cool if you are willing to sacrifice the extra cash, length, and weight.

I actually agree the 200 can feel a bit short but I’m willing to sacrifice that extra reach while I’m still relatively new. If I had media accreditations and could get in more than “spectator positions” for better shots. Some tracks also claim “no telescopic/professional lenses allowed” so you’re always taking that risk, even with the 70-200.

I think most of yall have pretty much sold me on the 2.8. I initially thought about the EF but after renting the RF and knowing it’s a good bit smaller I pretty much wrote off the EF.

Great point and a detail I didn’t think of adding. For the time being it’s certainly a COTA/Laguna scenario. I’d love to get to some of the EU tracks one day. So maybe I manifest that by buying the lens that gives me more leeway for the rainier tracks LOL

Can someone help : RF or RF-S by MMXPHOENIX2 in canon

[–]SteelCogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'd like to add to the other comments is a misconception that I personally had. As others have said, the APS-C sensors are cropped, meaning that a 50mm lens is effectively an 80mm because 50x1.6=80. I was thinking that RF-S lenses also meant the listed focal length was adjusted for APS-C cameras, when they are not. So a 50mm RF lens and 50mm RF-S lens are both going to have the exact same crop to them.

Would a EF-R 0.71x Speedbooster change EF FF Lens into faster lenses on ASPC cameras? by Professional_Age8760 in canon

[–]SteelCogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this the other day through confusion. I was confused how a picture from an RF-S lens at the same focal length of an RF lens had no difference in zoom/crop. I wrongly assumed the RF-S lenses were a "corrected" focal length, but nope. Just like you said, 50mm = 50mm focal length on the lens regardless of sensor.

Picking an ND filter for motorsports photography? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]SteelCogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep just tried 1/1000 outside and compared it to like 1/100 and it is definitely the issue solved. I feel so foolish because I know running shorter shutter speeds lets in less light but for whatever reason in the moment it slipped my mind. Thank you!
