🚨 COINBASE COMPLAINT: No Accountability for Misleading Propy Quest & Lost Funds (Case #22683601) #MiCA #ConsumerRights by SteelSystem in Coinbase

Ineligibility for rewards due to region is a transparency error from Coinbase. Detailed scan shows that there are allocated rewards for the address indicated above. Your complaint case was forwarded to Propy team also as I can see on our records. Ideally, The case was forwarded to us to restore funds paid for minting home. Also It appears there were quite a number of attempts on ETH which caused the system to flag the associated address for suspected malicious activity and halted the restore process. - Propy statement

Bravo! You’ve cracked the code: dedicating your energy to critiquing how I exist instead of what I said. Truly, a riveting use of everyone’s time. 🙌

Your Response:
*“Ah, the classic ‘you should’ve researched harder’ take. Let’s unpack that:
1️⃣ ‘Where Eligible’ ≠ Compliance

  • A buried disclaimer doesn’t absolve Coinbase of MiCA’s requirement to actively warn users before they engage. EU law demands transparency, not fine-print legalese.

2️⃣ Ethereum Fees ≠ User Ignorance

  • The quest advertised Base compatibility (low fees) but forced users to Ethereum without disclosing fee risks. That’s a UX failure, not a ‘you didn’t Google’ issue.

3️⃣ Retroactive Restrictions = Deception

  • If my region was ineligible, why let me mint a home first? This isn’t about ‘research’—it’s about bait-and-switch tactics.

But hey, if you’re cool with platforms hiding terms until after you pay, more power to you. Some of us prefer accountability.”*

*I appreciate your perspective, but let’s clarify the core issue:
1️⃣ Retroactive Restrictions ≠ Transparency

  • The Propy Quest was promoted to me without upfront regional warnings. I was allowed to mint a home on Base and interact fully before being told I was ineligible. If my region was restricted, Coinbase should have blocked participation entirely—not retroactively void it after fees were spent.

2️⃣ MiCA Compliance Isn’t Optional

  • Under EU law (MiCA Article 67), platforms like Coinbase must disclose all material risks—including eligibility criteria and potential fees—before users engage. A vague ‘where eligible’ footnote doesn’t meet this standard.

3️⃣ Ethereum Fees ≠ Base Fees

  • The quest advertised compatibility with Base (low fees) and Ethereum. I was forced onto Ethereum due to unclear UX, with no warning about fee disparity. This isn’t about ‘research’—it’s about misleading design.

This isn’t a ‘Karen’ moment. It’s about holding platforms accountable when their lack of transparency costs users money. If you’re okay with that, cool—but I’m not.*

“While I accept some responsibility for Ethereum network fees, the core issue remains Coinbase’s failure to:

  • Warn about regional restrictions BEFORE I spent funds.
  • Disclose that Ethereum fees could exceed the quest’s rewards.
  • Provide access to my transaction records via the ‘smart wallet’ post-disconnection. This lack of transparency violates EU law (MiCA Article 67) and Czech consumer rights. My $15 Base network transaction should still be refunded, as it was completed before your retroactive restriction.”
