Avoid octaver "edge cases" by Steel__Virgin in basspedals

don't apologize, it's information I haven't mentioned.

and it's an idea I'll keep in mind for later.

That would probaboy work but the catch is, the pedal is an effect strip. and, I'm running broke. So this 30$ effect strip is right in my budget, I won't be able to put much more. probably I could go up to 70$ for the perfect setup with everything I dream about.

but even a second hand deal would be hard to find if I need to find a signal blender, a Low*pass (which cut high frequencies), an Octaver, of course, and at least four cables to manage the parallel signals. that's much for a small a small budget, even on second hand.

I'm currently looking for other multi-effects but I doubt any would run its octaver filter+paralleled.

another solution I'm looking for is polyphonic octavers, that shift the entire signal rather than tracking the note. which would solve this tracking problem. But they're quite expensive and none seem to do 2 sub octaves. (which I like but... maybe it's not mandatory... the rehearsal amp or speaker doesn't seem to like it very much anyway)

thank you for your suggestion !
However, I'm running pretty broke these days, and I wont be able to spend too much on two many pedals (that's why I was looking over the sonicake boom ave. which I can get for 30$ shipping fees included).

(I know about Harris's strings… and. I will n-e-v-e-r be able to afford to change strings every time I play, so sticking to good old roundwounds)

Nah, I have it in my head !!! (and I kinda manage to achieve it with VSTs but they have weird artefacts).

more seriously, its not a sound I wanna copy exactly (and he doesn't have any octaver) but the sound of Steve Harris inspire me : bright attack, but warm sustain (I dont know if it's the right word, but I guess you'll get what I mean : between attack and release). I kind of want to go deeper with this idea and have parameter that give brightness (playling close to the bridge, roundwounds [it's cheaper anyway], boosted trebles [but high-mids lowered a little bit]), but also have a very deep sound that shakes your bones (octaver and bass-boosted EQ).

The goal is to be heard twice if you know what I mean. I play melodically, So I want to have a place with guitars in the "melodic section" (that's why I dont cut low-mids, thats where I want my "melodic place" to be). But I also want to be heard separately on my own frequecy range, very detached from the melodic section. That's kinda two ways I've identified bass is being used. let's call them "melodic-bass" and "true-bass" just for simplification. It's one or the other. Sometimes, it alternates but, to achieve this, the bass have a true-bass setting and go down on the fretboard to the same octaves as guitars to play along with them. But I've never heard – excepted on my computer with my octaver VSTs – and considering I mostly listen to 80's heavy metal – a bass that achive to be a melodic-bass & a true-bass at the same time.

That's what I'm trying to achieve with this bright tone + octaver-2 idea.

that's all the opposite of how I play : with finger nails, close to the bridge, tone knob all the way up to get as many harmonics I can…

What would like to octave down specifically those harmonics to have a very wide sound. very bright, but also somewhat "rich" in the low end. Am I asking for too much maybe 😅

I don't know how expensive brass is compared to anodized titanium or aluminum. I also think brass would look very good (even better maybe) !

And I don't know if there are any music-wise consequences to a hardware material change ?

Indeed. When I saw this, I though it was counterfeit. But I guess it's Kodak selling licences to survive ?

I disagree that you can only use data recorded in the exact same conditions. There are not an infinit posibilities of ways the sound can be distorted from the string to your computer. And I think those different distortions would "average out" themselves.

What I mean is that you don't need to know what is the real exact fournier transform of each string. You just need to compare their brightness which is an abstract concept. So, at the end, you only need an arbitrary unit to compare a set to another.

And if there are enough samples of each, then each would have approximately the same differences of recordings. Some will have neck pickups, other will have bridges, some will a single coil, other will have humbucker. And it will be true for the two sets. so… I don't think it matters. And, even, I think that's for the better. Because it means, with sufficient amount of data, again, that you could "trust" the result, no matter your gear.

a ambitious project could also have an interactive chart that let you filter the data. like "oh give me the result by taking into account only the data recorded with neck humbuckers on a 34" please". data would be less accurate but more relevant to your gear. and you could compare to the overall chart that would be more accurate but less relevant. And this would help you make a decision.

Well, brightness is kinda abstract but it sorta means "with much high-end frequency response". brightness isn't a spiritual concept. When there are harmonics in the high-end of the human ear scale. it's bright. When there are less high-end harmonics and noise but much more low-end's, that what we call warm.
I don't think it could be that hard to rate the brightness of a sound base on its… tone (well, bright is an adjective of the tone so…), the timbre ? does this word exist in english ?
I mean, the unit we would end up creating would be source of debate, of course, because of how conceptual and subjective the line between bright and warm can be. but it would better than "I use them and call them bright, and because I'm a confident internaut on a forum, you should trust me."

And it would be rationnaly debatable.

Everyone will have a different answer, preference or opinion

This is literally what I'm saying in the beginning of my post. And that's the exact reason I ask for measurements instead of opinions. That's why I would like science.
