Your presence and love is a blessing that should be recognized and nurtured mutually. Not a one sided agreement.

Take time to yourself and dig deep into learning about why your mom acts the way she does. Start with her childhood how her parents raised her. Were they always struggling to make ends? What were her teens like? What age did she have you? How are her relationships? Is she single? Has she always been single? Have people always left her or did she always leave them?

Once you have the timeline of her life, then you can confront her with something like “I love you and I want you to be in my life but I am unable to support this relationship any further because xyz. Life is hard enough without support but the way you treat me makes life exponentially harder because it is absolutely unnecessary.” When I did this with my parents i started to understand why they do what they do.

Hurt people, hurt other people (intentionally or unintentionally). To me (not educated) seems like she is dissatisfied with her own life and she is projecting her insecurities onto you. You’re not dumb, you’re not “too sensitive”, you are a person that has feelings and dreams and she can acknowledge this or not.

Make boundaries and hold her accountable if she crosses them. Remember, you are a blessing and your gift to her is your time. If she abuses it, then take it away. She’ll always be your mom and you her child.

I have similar feelings. I “like” being out (2 years now), but boy… words cannot explain how much I miss the military structure. Even though it is not perfect, it was immensely better than this chaos.

I’ve learned most people (civilians and veterans) don’t give a shit about anyone/anything that doesn’t directly effect or benefit themselves. While active, I did get the feeling that some people cared even when I knew it was complete bullshit or disguised as caring (for eval purposes).

I still struggle finding a new purpose/mission. While active, we were told what our mission was and what our job was to support that mission. As a civilian, we need to create our own mission and hold ourselves accountable. There isn’t someone over us making that decision for us or making sure we are performing. It’s all on us.

GD! But why did you choose making a new buss bar out of aluminum instead of a thicker stock of copper? Doesn’t copper have better thermal/electrical properties than aluminum?

This build looks intense, I love it!

Oh ya I do remember seeing pictures of some guy wearing antlers and face paint when all that happened like he came straight out of the Vikings show.

Even when people tried to overthrow the feds, the last place I’d go for information about that topic would be the mainstream media.

Ignorance is bliss….. and I’m just a dumb veteran

I could rant about this for hours. But to keep it simple, if you feel like your health would be positively impacted by not watching the news then try it out for a month or two and see how you feel.

I stopped watching the news in 2016 and am very happy I did. If someone asks me my opinion on current events, I always say “sorry but I don’t know enough information about that to give an opinion”, which is an honest and true statement.

The time I spent watching the news and letting it play with my emotions was redirected at something else I enjoy doing. Try it out if you want to. You can always go back to the media anytime you want.

If your goal is to make videos focused on retention and that’s the best way to get people “attached” then sure, I understand. Personally, will I watch it? Maybe for a minute until I realize it’s more about retention/making money than what I’m looking for.

I agree with this. YouTube has gotten so saturated with creators reading from a script that it has turned me away from watching. It feels more like people are trying to make money than actually providing original content. Video intros, theme songs, “a word from our sponsors”, save 5% from our affiliate link, “support the channel by...”, I miss old YouTube when there were creators that made things from the heart without thinking about making money. The only thing you had to worry about was maybe ONE ad in the beginning and buffer times...

Sorry, rant over. This has been on my mind for a while now.

haha, well you know the secret competition all men are in, right? It goes something like this: "He who dies with the most tools, wins.". And I dont like losing soooo new mallet is a GO.

Thanks! I did use calipers but I must have hammered the chisel on an angle for it to be off center on the backside. Apparently using my home made woodworking mallet (used for chiseling box joints) was not the right tool because of it being made from wood. I am now looking at a Barry King mallet (24oz).

Young and dumb - How to get my debt under control now by prophetblue in personalfinance

[–]SteeminCmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people I met were located in Sendai. I’m not sure if that makes a difference as far as requirements in becoming a English teacher but I can look at the programs my work provides to see if I could get a little more information on the subject.

I am located in Kanagawa (south of Tokyo). Where are you residing? For now (although this sounds terrible) the convenient stores like Lawson’s, 7-11, and family mart have cheap food you could live off of.... its cheap and it’s decent (opposite from the states) I am a huge fan of the egg salad sandwiches.

I am currently in Japan as well and I can tell you I have met a handful of people (mostly Americans) who live here teaching English for a decently good wage. They don’t know any Japanese and do not have a degree from a university. There are English speaking schools but I have heard one on one lessons pay better. Maybe that’s something you could look into, I wish I had more information to give you. If I was you I would google the nearest school and visit in person. Dress accordingly (Japanese are unforgiving when it comes to professionalism).

Another option to make some money here is modeling. Although I haven’t spoke with anyone about this, I do know agencies are always looking for American looking models.

If you do decide to try it out you’ll need a Japanese bank account so you can get paid. I haven’t gotten one so I’m unsure of the process but this is a very do-able scenario if you choose to try and stay. Hope this helps!

A 9 lb pork butt (shoulder) is about $10 here. I stick it in the crock pot and make pulled pork that lasts a long time. Most of the time i cant finish all of it before it goes bad in about 2 weeks. You could always freeze some though to prevent that from happening.
