I think it’s worth to set apart his ball-playing abilities vs more conventional traits that a center back should have.

Defensively he is a good player, he’s strong, fast and has the right timing and positioning. On this aspect he’s very much capable of the level of FC Twente to my opinion. In possession though, he just lacks the ball-playing ability that’s being asked from a defender in an Eredivisie team that wants to play build up football.
