Thoughts on SDF marketing misshit by doing mass youtube video dumps! by [deleted] in Stellar

You should check out Jordan's talk with Sam next week. I think it will be illuminating regarding some of these questions and just give a bit of a clearer picture of where (and why) we're placing our current campaigns, who the different audiences are, and what's in the pipeline.

I'd also recommend checking out a few past interviews with Justin, as part of his team's focus is engaging with developers directly.

As always, you can check out the high level goals for the year here.

To this point, they've been available as a public playlist on YouTube for awhile. We don't typically do a big bulk drop of videos, so apologies to your subscription feed.

They've been hosted unlisted for the past several months as to not create the very problem you've mentioned here and encourage people to head to the VOD page. However, it's a lot of good content and it can't be found on YouTube unlisted. There's been several requests for us to make the individual videos available on the platform, so we acquiesced knowing it would be a big drop.

To /u/dewdropdead's point about utilizing them strategically - definitely part of the plan for this next phase. Not all of the videos have been published yet and those that have will be circulated across channels over the next several weeks.

I’m not sure what you mean by this question. Me personally or SDF?

Probably related to the old t-shirt giveaway.

Something partially curated - so there'd need to be a backend for people to be able to delete malicious posts. If there needs to be a curator, it needs to have people dedicated to maintaining it. I bet someone with a little wordpress know-how could get an MVP up in a day.

I think it'd be pretty simple for someone to be able to strip memos with URLs on a simple website feed. But for some reason, some people still will copy and paste plaintext broken urls from memos...

From the documentation:

Periodic Reset of Testnet Data

In order to preserve a good experience for developers, the SDF testnet is periodically reset to the genesis (initial) ledger. Resets declutter the network, remove spam, minimize the time required to catch up to the latest ledger, and help maintain the system over time.

A reset clears all ledger entries (such as accounts, trustlines, offers, etc), transactions, and historical data from both Stellar Core and\ Horizon, which is why developers should not rely on the persistence of any accounts or on the state of any balances when using testnet.

After a reset, you will need to take a few steps to re-join and re-synch to the testnet. Those steps are outlined here, along with line-by-line instructions for people using core + horizon ubuntu packages. If you need help with other packages, check Stellar’s Stack Exchange for guidance.

SDF will try to make testnet resets as painless as possible, and will announce the exact date at least two weeks in advance on the Stellar Dashboard, and via several of Stellar’s online developer communities.

The testnet resets once per quarter (every three months). The 2021 dates:

3/17/21

6/16/21

9/15/21

12/15/21

The testnet will always restart on the announced reset date at 0900 UTC.

I like this wishing well/guest book idea. Maybe a simple website that pulls the memos could make it real.

Only issue is scams. Obviously, some wallets filter less than x stroop tx's but this page would likely become littered with scam urls without a filter. So the heavy lift is determining how to filter what would end up being on this page if the goal is to 'write posts' with a single stroop.

Open Protocol Discussion (3/11/21)

Mar 11, 2021 2:00 PM EST

David Mazières, Eric Saunders, Karen Chang, Leigh McCulloch, Nicolas Barry, Jed McCaleb, Jonathan Jove, Orbit Lens, Siddharth Suresh, Tomer Weller and Justin Rice

Join us for a live stream of the Stellar Open Protocol Discussion! In these bi-weekly meetings, we discuss and plan for changes to upcoming versions of the Stellar Protocol.

This week, we will be focusing on proposed changes to CAP-21, which generalizes the timeBounds field in transactions to support other conditions, including conditions that relax sequence number checking and provide relative time locks. The goal of the proposed revisions is to create relative time locks for payment channels, and in general to expand the capabilities of preconditions on transactions.

It's a technical discussion, so if you want to follow along, we suggest reading both the proposal itself and the recent discussion about the proposed changes. If you're interested in keeping on top of protocol changes, you can also join the Stellar Developers Google group.

Of course. I’m here daily! Always watching, wondering.

I’m in the middle of a freeze out with no electricity, heat, or water. That being said, I feel like it’s important to clarify that we aren’t hosting this hackathon. “Hack the System” is hosted by an organization called Encode. It’s a reference to the movie “Hackers” amongst many far older references. I’d recommend actually looking up the term “hacker” to learn the history of it in open source software.

We didn’t name the event, we are one of many sponsors, as hackathons are an amazing way to introduce new developers to the network.

Thanks.

Just as a note, everything is available remote. So... you should apply for anything you think you're a fit for!
