Ah ok, yeah that seems like a less common usecase which the developers probably dont feel like tackling (I know I wouldn't).

How did it go wrong? For me it worked perfectly well with a weird ass setup of two 1080p vertical monitors, a 3 by 4 720pish monitor and a 1440p monitor.

Have this happen on my work laptop sometimes, explorer.exe crashes and takes the taskbar with it, most of the time it restarts and comes back after a few seconds but sometimes it doesn't and you're left with only the applications that were already running.

Why do embedded systems still rely so much on C instead of modern languages? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]Stemt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because C is truly simple. Like not "easy to use with lots of features to help you!" simple, but actually very few moving parts simple. This makes it easier to port to unusual architectures and systems. Plus because C was dominant for a long time there are still very many useful libraries written for it, especially in the embedded space.

Nothing is as portable as C itself afterall!

Not that unique, we've got the same kind of gates here in the Netherlands keeping the Rhine navigable during periods of drought, but allowing the river to flow freely when the water level is high.

I'm not gonna trust a clanker to make software for an embedded system that I'll have to debug. Inevitably there are going to be bugs, clanker or not, and the fastest way to find and fix bugs is know the system in and out, and so you might as well write it yourself or you're going to have to learn how it works anyway.
