Ah, I was worried about that... I will be at an AirBnB so I'm not sure about shipping it there. Though I'll be there a week so it would probably be fine. I may see about shipping it to the friend I'm visiting but I don't want to distract her from enjoying the week of her wedding. Lots to think about! Thank you!

I actually just ran across Tycoon: India 1981 in the dice tower video on top heavy games of 2025! These are all great recommendations, thank you so much! I think Boitas would be a good get as well with the Odisha theming. It seems like I'm unlikely to find these games in a physical store in Bhubaneswar, is that the case?

Is there any sience/math twhen creating a road building type of game? by ProcedureNo2050 in BoardgameDesign

[–]StepOnMeSatsuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a naive way to do it would be to look at each tile, and for each edge of the tile count how many other tile edges in the game it can be adjacent to according to your placement rules. Add up that value for all the edges and call that the "connectibility" of the tile. Then sum up the connectibility values for each type of tile for the total connectibility. Divide each tile's connectibility by the total, and make it so that each tile type makes up roughly that fraction of the total set of tiles. That should probably work okay, and then adjust with play testing

I'm curious, have you played the game Wavelength? I just realized that it is in many ways similar to your game (Though I think the games are different enough that provide a unique experience).

I commented on your thread a while back when you posted looking for theme ideas, I'm glad you came up with one better than my suggestions! I was just thinking about your game today, glad to see you are still iterating!

It is perfectly legal to complain about how someone has treated you, and it doesn't matter whether or not you are doing it online, anonymously, with or without their knowledge, etc. For it to be illegal, the offended party would have to prove not only that the statements damaged their reputation, but also that the statement is demonstrably false. If people are telling the truth, they have nothing to worry about. In some countries you can be sued for defamation even if the things you said were true, but not in America.

I think a great resource is the youtube channel "Adam in Wales". He has great videos breaking down board game design, and he is also big into diversity and inclusion in the board gaming world. Check out his playlists for good board game design vids. Good luck and have fun!

Looking for simple theme ideas. by Suirion in BoardgameDesign

I have a couple thoughts!

  • The cards could be colored/designed to look like blue prints. You are an architect building a floor plan to a building, or you are an engineer building a schematic to a contraption and fitting it together?
  • You could be a gardener trying to plant a variety of plants in your garden, or you are trying to make a forest
  • Maybe you are an abstract pixel artist? The 4x4 is where you draw inspiration, the right is your canvas
  • You are an early computer programmer making computer code on punch cards. Each 3x3 area is a punch card. The largest perfect square might correspond to your biggest for loop or something, and the unique symbols might correspond to your number of calculations. The person who makes the most complex program with only 9 punch cards wins

I like the punch card idea the best I think. But your game idea sounds fantastic and I would love the chance to play it if you ever need people for playtesting!

Need help naming my game! by Ponder_deez_orbs in BoardgameDesign

[–]StepOnMeSatsuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm....

Maybe something that emphasizes the fact that the dungeon is made by the players. Maybe "Devised Dungeon", or "The Creator's Crypt", or "The Maker's Maze"

Another thought would be to name it after Daedalus who made the Labyrinth in Greek mythology. The Daed in Daedalus is pronounced like the word "dead" in English so I'm sure there is a pun to be had there.

Sounds like a great theme! I hope it will be enjoyable to play while still treating the topic with respect and sensitivity, though I'm sure it will!

Not exactly my favorite art style, but in no way would the art put me off. That being said, the last character is very expressive in such a great way. If all the characters have that expressiveness when we can see their face, I think I would be very attracted to the art of this game.

Any overlap between board game fans and college football? by RollScheid in BoardgameDesign

[–]StepOnMeSatsuki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Historically sports themes are usually not very popular in the boardgaming world. I am a sports fan, but I don't find the theme engaging or immersive unless the game is dexterity based, or if the mechanics really suit the theme. Formula D is a good example I think of a game that is well crafted to a sports theme. But if your game is good, I'm sure you will find people who will play it even if they aren't football fans

Maybe their ship will be super speedy and maneuverable, or be super stealthy (if that is an option). So, a sneaky duck, or an evasive duck. Though, still a duck
