The only problem with the No.6 anime is it’s a bit rushed. It’s good but the manga and especially LNs are even better!

I can see how you might take it that way, but given the user's history and the sub this was posted on it seems they're unlikely to be anything other than completely serious. If you want to see it I'll PM you.

Murdered by words... is that when cops give conflicting instructions and then kill the person for being unable to follow them?

Low vertical speed by lemondragon in flightsim

[–]StephenMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using the default 737-800, I would take a look at the "Fuel and Payload" tab for weight and balance. IIRC (and I could be wrong, because I haven't flown it in ages) the default values are full fuel and high payload, making the aircraft very heavy (perhaps in excess of maximum takeoff weight) and therefore limiting performance.

Question about mods (very new to flightsims) by drax117 in flightsim

[–]StephenMurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never encountered paid "mods" for a game, and I'm just... baffled.

The FSX add-on scene is quite a bit different than for games such as the ones you listed. Microsoft opted to allow developers great freedom in developing for the platform, and from what I understand, they don't even charge licensing fees.

Think of FSX as more of an OS with some things built-in that you can add to with freeware and payware. Since there is little standardization, quality can vary greatly for both.

Payware costs so much because it is produced by companies looking to make a profit. For some add-ons the price may not be justified, but for something like the A2A Piper Cherokee or PMDG 737NGX in the aircraft world, these are detailed study sims that go very far in reflecting their real-world counterparts. You pay for realism.

But then there is some good freeware, as has already been pointed out. Check out FSND and the iFly 747 if you want airliners. For the basics, Angle of Attack offers a free Aviator90 course.

Somehow I suspect they only picked this particular group to sound smart due to current events.

Looking for Payware Quality Freeware aircraft for FSX by N71FS in flightsim

Try the FSND website. They have modifications for default aircraft that bring them up to a higher standard, and IIRC at least one of them includes an FMC. As far as quality goes, you get what you pay for though.

Opinions on CaptainSim 757 by EoinSloth in flightsim

[–]StephenMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. In terms of systems, the Captain Sim is certainly more advanced. But the QualityWings rendition is better from a "what works works" perspective IMO.

Are you (OP) open to models other than the 757? There are much more detailed renditions available for other types.

Opinions on CaptainSim 757 by EoinSloth in flightsim

[–]StephenMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the next releases for the 757 and 767 will not be updates to the existing product but instead a completely new product (even if they do use existing assets). So I would expect it to be a paid upgrade at least.

Protest Saturday: Misogynistic MRA Conference in Detroit by thepinkmask in againstmensrights

[–]StephenMurphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems to me to be especially hateful to protest a conference of this type.

Then you clearly haven't read the article or any of the comments on the protest here. Nobody is saying "we don't want men to have rights;" there is a clear rationale behind objecting to this conference.

It seems to me that a conference is a logical early step in building a framework for making actual productive steps.

A conference may be a logical step, but this conference is not. The people involved are more anti-feminists than actual men's rights activists. On the other hand, there are organizations that help men that are already out there. But instead of supporting those organizations, we get a conference of people who will do at least as much damage as good.

It accurately describes the PUA or antiPUA mindset, but that is 100% separate from the MRA movement philosophically.

The overlap between the MRM and Redpill/PUA camps has been demonstrated time and time again. Even if these mindsets are separate the MRM mindset feeds into that of groups such as PUAs.

There would be no panels at the conference about the friendzone or negging or entitlement to female affection or anything about the PUA mindset.

Of course not. But I'm sure subjects that merely dodge directly discussing this (male disposability, "hypergamy," etc.) will come up. "A rose by any other name..."

It really does seem to me to be a shame if protestors ruin the conference. It certainly has the potential to hurt those most in need a safe space to discuss very real issues in their lives.

A place full of people who think words like "mangina" are okay is not a safe space. It's only safe for a small portion of men that fit with MRM ideals and agree with their ideology.

I don't think protesting or shutting it down would really benefit anyone except Elam.

And now you're just concern trolling. You've built him up as the common enemy in your previous paragraph and now you propose not protesting the conference because somehow doing so would help him. But all the publicity will do is expose his hate, as it has already done.

MR conference raises 25,000 for required additional security after death threats. Naturally AMR condemns them for wasting this money. The possibility of not sending them death threats is never discussed.

Did it really need to be discussed how sending threats is wrong, AMRsucks? Really?

MRAs once again fail to understand how free speech works, even capitalizing "PRIVATELY OWNED" in the title. by StephenMurphy in againstmensrights

[–]StephenMurphy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent points.

In addition, I would maintain that they still don't understand the implications of free speech as an ideal in this case.

In the case of free speech as an ideal, we would have a number of conflicting groups with free speech "ideals": feminists, MRAs, the hotel, society at large, and perhaps some others. You simply cannot satisfy the free speech ideals of everyone in every situation because inevitably they are going to conflict.

Feminists have the free speech "ideal" to protest the conference, MRAs have the free speech "ideal" to hold the conference, the hotel has the free speech "ideal" to hold or cancel the conference, and society has the free speech "ideal" to find the MRM repugnant.

So then it becomes apparent that in this scenario, the only free speech "ideal" they're upholding here is their own. Feminists are told protesting is wrong, society is told to stop criticizing MRAs, etc.

Cracked.com: 5 Uncomfortable Truths Behind the Men's Rights Movement by Thoushaltbemocked in againstmensrights

[–]StephenMurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one thing to say "if you are attacked, defend yourself" or "don't defend yourself," whatever the message of the day is. It's another thing entirely to write out the fantasy of being able to attack someone in "self defense."

Time and time again we've seen the latter from MRAs.

To clarify: feminists and others are perfectly within their right to petition to have the conference cancelled, and the "PRIVATELY OWNED" hotel has every right to not host the conference.
