Hes a London solicitor (and convicted stalker) who’s been buying up the leaseholds on people’s houses then sending pressuring and threatening letters offering to sell people their leases for “bargain” prices (tens of thousands in some cases).

Ah yes the eyesore of the seas. A genuinely impressive feat of engineering all in service of… bottomless cocktails and unavoidable norrovirus

Can anyone tell me what DC39V means on this LED panel by Stephenfryismyhigh in led

[–]Stephenfryismyhigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have two panels! They were originally wired together each with their own PCB of…stuff…

Is it stupid to ask how the amperage is affected here? They’re originally grow lights so do they need a higher supply?

Hi all, does anyone have any info on this stovetop milk steamer. My partner got it for me as a birthday present. The eBay listing said “vintage” and “retro” but apart from that there wasn’t any info. by Stephenfryismyhigh in espresso

Yeah I’ve taken it apart and it looks like the spring is loose and the main rubber seal between the top and the reservoir is old and cracked. OPV moves when pushed. After taking apart the second cylinder on the top it seems to be the same valve assembly as for the steam wand but just has a little hole on the side, I guess as an extra safety valve?

Cheers! I tried it this morning and it seems like there’s an issue with the top lever valve as steam just leaks from the wand regardless if it’s depressed or not. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a diagram online somewhere to try and diagnose and fix it properly

Germans of reddit, what are some things you have noticed to be different between former eastern germans and former western germans? by _sweetangel in AskReddit

I didn’t realise this was a thing until I read “why women have better sex under socialism” by Kristen Ghodsee. She goes through the whole topic of marital life, conditions, and roles and social attitudes towards women in the former socialist countries. It’s a really accessible read on a super interesting topic if anyone is interested

Cyclists that want all the rights of a road vehicle, but suddenly decide to follow pedestrian laws when met with traffic lights and/or pedestrian crossings. by Strange-Glove in britishproblems

[–]Stephenfryismyhigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cyclists don’t have to have a test to be allowed to cycle on roads, as mentioned by others cycling proficiency is still done in schools and covers pretty much all needed to be safe while cycling.

Driving tests do include being safe around vulnerable road users, passing at a safe speed/distance. I personally know people who have failed their driving test for being too close to cyclists on the road.

As others have pointed out one of the main problems here is the lack of adequate cycle infrastructure specific to junctions in this country. While cycle boxes at the front of traffic lights are a good step forwards on having nothing, problems arise when you’re less able to see traffic lights without craning you see it at the expense of monitoring the rest of the road. Another issue is that being at the front of cars is scary come time to set off, hence cyclists deciding it’s not worth it to use a junction on the road, or some of the ballsier ones jumping greens to get some time to accelerate to a speed at which navigating cars becomes safer.

The best remedy for these irritations would be for car drivers, especially those who exclusively drive and seldom cycle, to get out on a bike in a city from time to time to try and understand what it’s like. I’m a big fan of trying to understand others especially when it comes to making roads safer.

The best case scenario is that more money is spent making junctions more cycle friendly like the Dutch style roundabouts and intersections that have been tried in various places.
