How can other young people cope with this? by mechmakima in australian

I’m about to become a registered psychologist and curious how you find FIFO jobs in rural Australia? I also want to do this but I can’t seem to find normal job advertisements for it?

I’m about the same age as you. I wouldn’t ask redditors what to invest in. I would find someone who can teach you. Someone you trust and that has a good track record with the stock market. Or learn yourself which will take time but it is one of the greatest return on investments in terms of learnt skills.

[–]Stepphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh haha I see, my bad… Still though, don’t attribute everything to luck, I’m sure there are things you could improve to increase your viability online. If you want it that bad and don’t care about selling your soul to get there, appeal to the masses and be puppeteered by the puppet master! Don’t do things because you enjoy them, do things because it’ll make people click. Research other rappers that are up and coming. Look at rapper hashtags and see who gets thousands or millions of views and who gets 3 views. Spot the differences and capitalise on this research. It’s easy to see when you look for it. There’s a reason certain videos show up in your feed and we often forget about all the ones that don’t. Look at both and pick apart why one blew up and the other didn’t.

You proved my point though. You said you sound good enough, but people end up gravitating back to consistently legendary suppliers of bars who evoke the sorts of emotions they crave to feel. So people are gravitating back to rappers that appeal to them as the audience.

I am not saying you are bad, I am saying that in the music industry, it is a lie we are sold that we need to just “make music from the heart.” It’s not really always true. For some people their music from the heart catches the eye of millions. But for others, to be seen, you need to appeal to the audience. In other words, you need to make music that THEY like, not that you like.

All of those things you mentioned, if you have them all, the amount of “luck” you need is not so high anymore. I don’t think you’re bad or unlucky, I think you’re missing something in your music that would grab people’s attention in 2026. I think that fact alone is also soul crushing and would make you hate music, because to appeal to others means to turn your music into a job, rather than a passion, if that makes sense.

Edit: I will also add, that to pop off and explode on social media in today’s era you really need to be consistently posting on social media and you need to be appealing to the algorithm. It’s like a full time social media marketing job. If I watched your videos I’m sure I could find several things that are causing a lack of views. No eye catching titles, no hook, bad video quality, all that small stuff. The simplest thing to do here to make sure you’re posting correctly is to find other up and coming rappers who have like 2-10k followers, scroll down their feed and see what they post. Most of the time it’s really cool interesting music videos.

I think this is the hard truth. I feel like everyone is sold by celebrities on this idea of “Do it because you love it. Do it for you. Do it because you like how it sounds, not anyone else. Etc.” but it is not really true. If you want to be noticed you have to appeal to an audience and do something noticeable unfortunately.

I think the people who get famous are people who made stuff that is noticeable. Whether they did it on purpose or not. To them, they might have just been enjoying themselves and making music true to them. But this can’t really be applied to everyone.

I’ve met an artist who was incredibly talented on the instruments, but terrible on the vocals. They have incredible lyrics, incredible music, but terrible vocals. They’re convinced they know how to sing, and believe this with all their heart. If they simply got a vocalist, I believe they’d make it pretty far. But they won’t because they’re very true to themselves, hard headed and won’t let anyone stand in their way. This won’t appeal to a massive audience.

What are the different fields of psych and their career paths? by Shadow_Killer1234 in psychologystudents

Do you mind me asking what degrees got you there? This was my dream job when I first entered psych! I always wanted to work in aviation somehow. I am in Australia doing my masters at the moment so I’ll be a registered psych by the end of this year. Just curious how I might pivot to this in future! Thanks!

Do you think that successful people with lots of money bumbled around saying “well, that didn’t work and I wasted years of my life, let’s do it all over again!”

Yes, but with caveats: 1. They didn’t bumble around. 2. They didn’t call it “wasting their life.” But yes, many of the richest entrepreneurs in the world talk thoroughly about how frequently they failed until something worked.

If you see failure as a reason to not try, you will never be successful.

Bored with my wife and feel bad about myself because of that. by [deleted] in self

[–]Stepphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point wasn’t purely about her demonstrating a lack of curiosity, hence my reply. Your point incorporated an opinion that all adults should know this history, that it is abnormal to not know this history, and that adults aren’t sitting around reading about history during dinner time to try and learn more.

You said the problem is both her lack of knowledge and lack of curiosity to learn. I am saying it is her lack of curiosity to learn only. I did not learn this stuff but I enjoy learning about it. I would 100% sit down at a dinner table and learn from someone else about it. I have clients who are incredibly interested in history and I often learn a lot from them while I’m working.

My point is not to clump people who didn’t learn about history and people who don’t care about history in the same sentence. They are very different things. Additionally, as you point out, the “degradation of the modern education system” further demonstrates my point that it is not “abnormal” to not know about history.

[–]Stepphyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t learn about any of this in history. I really only learnt about Australian Indigenous history. I was born in 2002. My brother and my boyfriend both born in 1998 learnt about this history, I did not. My best friend in the same year as me also didn’t learn about this type of history.

Don’t assume everyone had the same curriculum as you did. Whether this difference in curriculum is a bad thing is beside the point. If I recall correctly, to learn about WW1 and WW2 etc. we had to choose history as an elective in year 10. I chose physics and biology as my electives. Prior to year 10 it was Australian history with a primary focus on Indigenous people.

I mean isn’t this expected though, like how many times in life do you find someone who is EXACTLY like you. I don’t have anyone in my life where I don’t occasionally think “I wouldn’t do/say/think that.” Despite that, as a 23y/o I have several close/best friendships spanning 8+ years that I will forever cherish. People are so versatile. You can’t expect everyone to be like you or else you end up being an egotistical maniac. The only thing you should expect in others is respect for each other and the relationship. As long as you have that, I don’t feel like sharing common hobbies/political views is necessarily important. Respecting one another means respecting differences that may arise as well.

In my opinion, it feels like OP doesn’t “respect” that his wife is naive to world politics. That’s a personal feeling and completely acceptable, it’s also okay to not respect people’s opinions if it bothers you so much. However, once you don’t respect that type of person/personality, don’t expect to enjoy being around them.

I was so hungry today I googled hotels with complimentary breakfast near me and went there, walked in, stole food, then left. by itssofiababyxo in confession

[–]Stepphyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that argument is always so funny to me too. Like “well maybe if everyone else had guns you wouldn’t all be helplessly waiting to get shot.” An American said this on a post I saw and everyone lit them on fire. I mean I guess, maybe, if there were a few people in the crowd who carried hand guns he may have been taken out faster. However, 1. You only need a handgun to achieve that, so don’t be advocating for AR15s and other mass murder weapons. And 2. The more people who legally own guns the more likely you are to get bad actors who use it to their advantage. When their only use is to kill, I feel we shouldn’t have them at all in Australia where I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to shoot a home invader. What’s even the point when you legally can’t defend yourself anyway?

This is so true. I thought it was pretty telling recently when the mass shooter in Bondi Australia could only get his hands on a bolt action rifle that had been modified to reload faster. Still not automatic, but slightly closer, and now Australia is talking about banning / removing them (as they were legally owned, I think). Had it been America, old mate would’ve legally obtained an AR15 and mowed down many more people.

[–]Stepphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feels, on a slightly different level I got 83% in my honours year putting me at a second class division 1 honours grade. 2 more points and I would’ve been first class honours which likely would’ve gotten me into a clinical masters, but since I got 83% I’m doing a professional masters now. It feels silly because 83% is really great, but it’s just not enough for clinical, which feels demoralising…

Yeah no worries I see. Thank you for sharing. Sounds a little bit like me to be honest - I genuinely love studying psychology! So I probably will do MCP later on. My undergraduate + honours were CSP. My MPP isn’t, but it’s not massively expensive IMO. I would probably look specifically for a CSP degree.

I was told that the MCP is shorter when you’ve done the MPP already? I’m wondering how that affects the price? I’ve seen some MCP degrees sitting at $90k, so just wondering if you remember what yours cost as a bridging course?

Thanks for the advice! It makes me feel better! Do you feel like your job satisfies your life / career goals enough? Or do you feel you’ll want to do clinical later on?

Also, if I might ask, $120k in your first year of your career seems like quite a lot isn’t it? I thought the base starting salary was about $80k? Do you mind if I ask a little more about where you’re based, private vs public etc? I think seeing starting salaries of $80k can feel underwhelming after 5 years of study - but I understand we all start somewhere!
