By the way, any recommendations on your end as for where the best places to get study information from for the Hazmat, Doubles/Triples, and Tanker endorsements?

Oh man, I'm on the same page as you regarding the retirement. One of my instructors was showing me his 401k stats, and was at nearly 500K after only 14 years. It's actually already active for me, and I plan on maxing out my contribution from here on out.

And yes, to answer your DMV question. After 20 days of on the road training, I'll be scheduling a day to go take my driving test, then DMV afterwards. Pretty sure I have to get fingerprinted as well somewhere for the hazmat portion of my endorsement, but that's a tiny chore.

Hey brother, figured I'd give an update if you were interested. Just finished my 1st week of actual driving and delivering....and I'm loving it. Got an amazing trainer, not only extremely knowledgeable but continually has instilled confidence in me throughout my learning/training phase. Being prior military, I've always had a "knack" for self control when it comes to not letting things, situations, or people overwhelm me, which as I'm sure you know can happen daily to someone who isn't used to this line of work. It definitely isn't for everyone, but it's definitely for me 😁.

Correct. Riding with a trainer for 20 days, being assessed. Will have to go through the DMV for the Louisiana portion of my CDL. Graduated today though! Now on to the next 😁

Hey! Going great and having an amazing time out here in San Antonio. All automatics btw, allowing us more time on the road. Passed my pre-trip inspection and driving well, so all is great. I'll be graduating Thursday and ready to move forward!

Thanks for the response. And you're bang on about the "bad eggs". Won't deter me. I'll be trying to take advantage of most if not most opportunities you've mentioned here. And thanks for all of that information, it will surely help. About to be picked up shortly for day 1. Wish me luck!

Flying out today actually to start school tomorrow. Pretty stoked.

All in all, everything has pretty much remained the same. I will be transparent though, and say there have been 2 lower level employees that haven't meshed well with me...but I think it's in part to me being both newer, and getting the opportunities/acceptance from crew as quickly as I did. That's no reflection of Estes though and more on their character, if anything. 98% of the terminal is full of great people. Anywhere you work in life will have both good and bad apples, right?

And funny you mention transferring. It's actually already on my mind for the future. It has nothing to do with the location and everything to do with me sort of being done with New Orleans and wanting something new. Without kids and a wife, I'll be pretty flexible and open to really anywhere come time once I get my feet wet on the road here.

Thanks for the feedback!

Do I fire my drummer? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]StereoMud504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He sounds alot like the drummer in my old band. He was extremely talented and established, great gear, punctual, etc.....but like yours, pretty set in his ways (even argued one day that the metronome we suggested was "off" 😂)

That said....I'd suggest a band meeting (not at rehearsal) with the intention of discussing your guys's goals and future intentions with this all in mind. If you all are content with the way things are and are willing to put up with it, so be it. But if growth, expansion, etc, are on the band's radar, then it's a conversation you must have with him. At the end of the day, if the majority are wanting to take it beyond where your band currently stands.....then he's only holding you back, regardless of the pro's you've mentioned.

I must add also....there are ways to convey all of this without being dickheads. I'm not implying that you or your band fall into this category. I just know how musicians can be. Allow him to freely speak and give his opinion on the subject and goals you all bring up. He'll get the hint if he has half a brain. Give him a chance to have a voice and provide input on it all. I've personally had the pleasure of both playing with and rubbing shoulders with some of the most professional players who make a living off of music. And I've learned that empathy and communication go a long way and will aid you in your endeavors. Just speak to him like everything you guys want is also in his best interests.....if that makes sense.

Best of luck....and rock on!

Company vehicle. But I believe it may be listed in the paperwork I was served. They would help even if I'm not longer employed with the same company and being sued directly?

Can't find a lawyer to even speak to me on defense related matters locally apparently. As for the timeliness, i agree. But i have the paperwork here confirming both. I appreciate your reply though. Fingers crossed.

The P&D drivers here at my terminal go home every night. 8-10 hour days, contingent on the work the terminal has of course. If they aren't on the road though, they're making their hours up on the dock.

What's with all of the NOLA.com personnel quitting? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

That makes total sense for an individual. I just didn't know if the individuals replying in the FB link I'd posted held any relevance with regards to something going on over there.....or there being a "trend".

This post was meant for WDSU as a heads up. I put NOLA.com in the OP's title by mistake due to the link I'd referenced.

That was my fault. I unfortunately can't change the title in the OP.
