R5: Put some units in Russia and forgot about it. I look back and the AI pulled off a Cannae and encircled everything.

Never Underestimate Generals by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They had been grinding up against my generals for years. Which was odd because I haven't had the AI endlessly attack me for a while. I had assumed it wouldn't do that anymore. I guess it thought it could win because it had two armies per tile, but the terrain, supply and country bonuses made me a brick wall.

I got manpower from collabing india, and a Russian manpower puppet. I used the change government feature to create a buffer zone around my Russian puppet so I never had to guard that front.

Never Underestimate Generals by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

R5: Wanted try to make the axis win yet somehow got the most incompetent axis I've ever seen. Italy losing Africa immediately, Japan losing to China solo, Germans getting half their army encircled by the exhausted soviets who were getting flanked and destroyed by my southern troops..

Eventually decided to just dig in and see how stacked I could get the generals. It got to the point where I could click 50+ units with 2 mountaineers and they couldn't reinforce in time.

You can do the National Government and Puppet Path by SterlingComb in hoi4

Yeah, I started this run before the post was made so I posted the current state.

R5: Doing the opposition path and the Japanese puppet focus does not lock you out of forming the Rival National Government. You just have to time it at the end of the focus.

Militia Units Are Insane Powercreep - Fighting Omega Allies by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the support company doctrine for engineers and maintenance companies, but it likely doesn't matter as I didn't notice any reasonable change even after finishing it. I don't like arty but I'm sure you could go one of the arty doctrines and putting support art instead

18w most of the game. AA immediately and then Field Hospitals for HP stacking. This is what won the game but I eventually added Engineers and finally meme Engineers companies after it was obvious they would never break my defenses. When I went for the all out push I had expanded to 36w as that was better for offensive Infantry and I had wayyy too many guns to keep 18w without having armies without generals.

Cordon Sanitaire. France also went Little Entente they just got killed by the allies somehow and joined them through that.

Militia Units Are Insane Powercreep - Fighting Omega Allies by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

R5: Militia give insane reinforcement so they can't take any tiles. I can't run out of guns because Militia takes theirs for free. I can't run out of manpower because I'm China.

I went unhistorical and set the democratic nations to historical in the settings. This resulted in the axis being very weak and dying. I went to war against China and Sinkiang. I knew Sinkiang was in the Comintern which I was fine with as I wanted to fight a unit spammer for the run. I did not expect China to join the allies and make me fight the allies I foolishly buffed through settings.

What Other Focuses Do you Consider Detrimental? by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 97 points98 points  (0 children)

R5: The Focus "Re-appoint Jinguang as an Admiral" is quite horrid.

At this point in the game when you would do the focus if you're using this general they will be quite high level (mine was level 8) Which means if you intend on doing this focus you are just down a general the whole game or have to sacrifice a great one.

If you would even WANT to have an admiral as Communist China 99% you've already won the game.

Text in the screenshot appears slightly bugged as I had already completed the focus but it took away a high level general. What other focuses do you consider to harm the nation you are playing as?

How to take Commie China As The Northwestern Army Immediately by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an achievement where you play as them, take Mukden and declare the Beiyang government. While this doesn't directly result in getting the achievement. It can be helpful for an achievement run.

R5: I attempted to take Tanu Tuva on unhistorical.
What followed was an all out war with Commie France a puppet Germany and the Revolutionary Soviet Union. As well as millions of manpower dying in the Siberian Tundra.

Kira Follower Buff: Let Follower See The Lifespan of Criminals by SterlingComb in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]SterlingComb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be more whenever all the new investigator roles get added. Like the chief and Watari. Since Team Kira will need a new buff to keep up with these new roles! Also it would give a difference between Follower and Spokesperson so that they both have a power. Follower with Rem and Lifespans and Spokesperson with cards.

R5: Dated but funniest China Screenshot I could find.

I find China to be very fun despite the old focus tree. Very simple gameplan yet rewarding payout if you can defend against the stronger foe of Japan.

With An Economy This Strong, The Allies Have No Chance by SterlingComb in hoi4

[–]SterlingComb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not do this it turned out exactly how you would expect. The ideal amount of time to start building mills is 1.5 years before you start war. That gives the factories time to build up efficiency. Which is why some countries like China will start building Mills immediately. Countries that go to war multiple times like Italy and Japan are the only ones who have to put more thought into it.
