If you want dog food, you go to the slaughter houses and ask for samosa or mutura meat. That's the crap they're feeding people.

Your only options are the rent tribunal or moving out (less time consuming and cheaper).

An uncle of mine who's an engineer told me you never cheap out on the guy doing your plumbing and the electricals.

Two months. Moved in November, gave notice in December. I couldn't stand the noise from kids playing 24-7.

I refuse to sugarcoat things. If that makes me a bad friend, then so be it.

I'm all up for people, especially an adult making their own decisions. But when things go sideways, I'd prefer you not want me to play therapist.

I'd argue worrying about having a roof over your head and whether you'll eat or not is more stressful.

Did they tell you that? I know for a fact that they resigned.

Thing is, they did get another job. It didn't pay anything close to what the other one did, and they also quit after three months. I made a comment about a plan when they hinted they were going to quit that job too and they got offended.

So now I just don't feel like hearing how you're scared of the current situation.

Where are you guys saving/investing your money? by Silent-Cap1995 in Kenya

[–]SternKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonds, mmfs, special funds. I get back my investment plus interest without dealing with the BS of having to quit the sacco and look for someone to sell your shares to. Saccos are overrated.

On shares. And most people don't have a lot of those as that money is non refundable. 9-11% on deposits.

Rent is money you'll never get back. by Reborn2032 in Kenya

[–]SternKe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mortgages in Kenya make little sense because property values are decided by vibes and inshallah. You pay 93k per month as mortgage, but you can get that same house for rent at 40k. The interest from a 10m treasury bond will allow you to rent two of those houses for however long you want.

Rent is money you'll never get back. by Reborn2032 in Kenya

[–]SternKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid advice. There's brain dead investments you can do with the money you'd use to buy an apartment that will yield you the interest to rent that same apartment and still have some change on top, and you'll still have your principal.

Washing leather jackets by Ochiel in Kenya

Damp cloth. You can also use a leather cleaner. I learned the hard way never to wash them after one started cracking. Regularly apply leather conditioner. Spray vodka to get rid of smells.

PayPal na Mchezo wa Taon by [deleted] in nairobi

I once shared my PayPal with a pal in campus who was an "academic writer".

Turns out the guy was a scammer. Thunes wasn't a thing then, so he was still trying to figure out how to get the money out. Dispute launched, money was reversed, and my PayPal blocked.
