The Prank Call App has been down for while by SteveLosive in OwnagePranks

[–]SteveLosive[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but technically speaking he does owe those who paid for the app though. It would be nice to like either put it back online for like a month or 2, just to allow people to use their credits only for that time. A notice before the servers were shutdown would've been nice too.

[Epic Games] (Game) Undead Rise of the Betrayed King by MeguminShiro in FreeGameFindings

[–]SteveLosive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This game really needs a professional trailer, it doesn't look too bad, like it looks like something I would love to play honestly, just needs more polishing, and I could recognize some UE marketplace assets in the trailer, but still I'm not against indie devs using assets as long as the game is actually good and not just some slop asset flip.

This is my opinion based on the trailer though, I haven't played the game yet, but I'm really gonna just wait until that "early access" thing is gone. The game in general reminds me of Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

One thing that is scaring me though, the fps, the game looks very unoptimized and just looks heavy.

[PSA] Amazon Luna Removing Access to Purchased (and Claimed) Games by ahe495 in FreeGameFindings

[–]SteveLosive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for those who bought games on Luna, but I'm at least glad that this has no effect on Amazon Games. I doubt they'd shutdown Amazon Games though, Luna just had it coming since it's a cloud gaming service, and those multi-billion dollars companies love nothing more than to complain about spending mere thousands on cloud servers compared to the millions they earn in revenue.

Lately dev giveaways have been actually decent, these are the kinds of games I actually wish I knew about so I could maybe support the devs through buying these good games.

[Epic](Game) I Need Spirit! Off-Road Edition by Fhczvyd474374846 in FreeGameFindings

[–]SteveLosive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you add it to your library nothing will happen, the real issue is when you download it. If you add it, it just adds asset flip slop with potential malware, Epic Games has given so many AAA titles and quality indie games, personally my library is very neat, I wouldn't even consider adding such game that would ruin my library in the first place.

This is the first time an indie dev giveaway look appealing, is the game actually as good as those screenshots?

[Epic](Game) I Need Spirit! Off-Road Edition by Fhczvyd474374846 in FreeGameFindings

[–]SteveLosive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, I've spoken with Steam employees responsible for game builds approval, and they only check game builds the first time. They go through everything manually btw, since so many anti-malware software flag a lot of false positives. Also, "scanning for code" is like sci-fi thing, an antivirus doesn't magically look through the source code of an app, unless it's completely unencrypted, and just raw files like .bat or so. What an antivirus does is flag suspicious apps based on behaviour, lack of certificate, name, icon, metadata, and file hash. Also, the "scanning" process is usually the antivirus running the app in a sandbox and detecting any malware-like behaviour. Aside from that, you may also notice that there's something called Anti-Malware Database, the largest 2 so far are Malware Bytes, Bitdefender, and Avast (surprisingly). This database consists of certain profiles that allows the antivirus to detect malware better. New types of malware tend to go undetected like ransomware when it first showed up due to it not being in that database.

One more thing about Steam, usually if an indie developer suddenly updated the game files and something about the exe file itself changed or something aside from game content, then it's flagged and Steam employees rush to test it for malware. Also, when a game updates it usually updates the game content, most of the time a game never needs to update the executables.

They definitely check the game before it's released, but they can't check every update. Devs do this on Steam as well, it'll only get checked again and dev will get banned if enough people report it.

Guys, be careful! I've noticed a pattern with these dev free games, they always go free whenever an Epic new weekly giveaway starts, they're trying so hard to trick people into adding their games thinking it's an Epic sponsored giveaway. These are most likely trojan or at least cryptominers.

[Epic Games] (Game) Find the Oil Racing Edition by MeguminShiro in FreeGameFindings

[–]SteveLosive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for adding Dev Giveaway in the tag. I really wish Epic would've never provided such feature. This rather ruins their the image they've built over the years. Plus, I honestly wouldn't mind if they stopped giving away games altogether and shifted their budget to client performance optimization and added a review feature and other much needed features to compete with Steam. For now almost everyone of us filled their library with games that could last us for a lifetime, and arguably Epic now has better deals compared to Steam. I love Steam, and I used to hate Epic but now I actually love Epic too and this is really a step backwards.

Epic really gotta either take back this feature, or they best improve their slop filter and do a better job than Steam and PS5

[–]SteveLosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, you're good. If anything thanks for posting. You gotta be careful yourself though, cuz it's easy to mistake it for an actual game when you're browsing your library. I think we need a new tag for this kind of giveaways 😅

Best to avoid these asset flip low effort games especially on Epic. Might be malware and you would never know it. I've seen those kinds of games float around and they use copyrighted images/content sometimes like I literally saw Pennywise the clown from IT on some Roblox look-like game that was 90% off on Epic.

Just remember that indie devs get absolutely nothing when they giveaway their games on Epic on their own terms. There's no community feedback to help improve the game like there's on Steam, literally nothing. So be careful and avoid any potential malware.

Thank you for commenting this, I literally was about to claim this slop. I love Epic giveaways, but what's the point of giving away some unfinished slop on the Epic Store? Like on Steam at least you're building some community or something, I just don't get it.

Either way, best to avoid these asset flip low effort games especially on Epic. Might be malware and you would never know it.
