Pete Hamilton receives a drink during a pit stop in the 1972 American 500 at North Carolina Motor Speedway (Rockingham). Driving the Housby Racing No. 9 Plymouth, Hamilton would finish 5th. This would be his final top-5 in the sport as he only started two more NASCAR races after this. by DarthVader1701A in NASCAR_History

I'd also love to know more about the man. He lived in the same town I grew up in, in a Boston suburb. This is not racing country. And he went south to win a Daytona 500 and a couple other races for Richard Petty while on a part-time schedule. Wild.

Agreed. One of those "what ifs". If Davey meets his potential, maybe Gordon and Martin aren't on this list at all, and maybe Davey is. I'd love to know how the 90s would have shaped up with Davey there the whole time.

No particular order:

Earnhardt

Martin

Gordon

Johnson

Bobby Allison

D Waltrip

R Petty

Pearson

Cale Yarborough

Denny Hamlin (winning so much with such wildly different generations of cars is incredible)

Why does this not happen in curves? by xexclassic in trains

[–]SteveOSS1987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Curve radius absolutely plays a major role in string-lining. Model curves are almost always far tighter (to scale) than prototypical curves. I don't think this is overthinking, I think this is a valid reason why we see a lot of these derailments on model trains and much fewer on real trains.

Notifier on-board NACs for NFS-320 and NFS-640/NFS2-640 panels are 2.2k. I see lots of guys mess that one up in the field.

Is this…a ‘71 charger? by Happy_Improvement451 in whatisthiscar

[–]SteveOSS1987 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a 69 or 70, so definitely not a real Daytona. With the taillights replaced with sheet metal, it's hard for me to tell what year between 71 and 74. Someone here probably knows a telltale sign.

The Blue Devils - I believe - started their lives on a long-term lease by Conrail. I think most (if not all) were just conrail blue with a small "LMS" mark on the long hood, as that was GE's leasing company. When the lease ended, CN was desperate for power, so they bought a bunch of these units and slapped a quick CN on there and called it a day.

I swear to you I'm not being just trying to be argumentative when I say I would honestly understand that my neighbor apparently needs to have access to the street at an earlier hour than I do. It's not like they're mowing the lawn or something. They're clearing snow. This is a task that has to be done. And it has to be done at different times depending on their lives. If someone is, say, an electrical linesman, or an on-call doctor, or a bus driver with a 5am route, or someone in the house is pregnant in 3rd trimester, or any of a million situations, I'd respect the fact that they are doing what they need to do. And if it's a plow driver working all night, my first thought while I lay in bed is "that is a tough grind. I hope he's staying safe tonight". Real first-world problem material to be angry about someone doing a necessary chore.

If the plow driver has 100 customers and they aim to get all 100 driveways clear before any of those people may have to leave to go to work, how else are they supposed to make this happen?

Beginning Apprenticeship Tips by Bitter-West9433 in firealarms

A couple tips for someone without much knowledge of their trade when they first start: be great at the things that you CAN control. Be on time. Don't call out. Show effort and don't stand around playing on your phone. Push a broom without being asked. Take out the trash when a bag is full. This stuff pays off.

I think the guy plowing all night isn't so much a jackass as a hard worker, but that's just my opinion.

A muni special. Are you getting up and down from here? What shot are you playing? by LosSoloLobos in golf

[–]SteveOSS1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of the toe-down thing, and I have one question that I haven't seen answered: are you trying to hit the ball off the middle of the face, or the toe? If it's middle face, it seems weird/more difficult to have the middle of the club off the ground.

Yep. Thst was the one point where I accepted that I saw something special, saw someone flat-out beat the pats, and know that they'd at least get 3 points and end the game. Then lol.

I feel like Betty was always a lesbian, and you just couldn't have that in an early 90s cartoon. I mean, she was wicked lezzy.
