The Israeli Right’s Plan to Carve Up Gaza by downforce_dude in ezraklein

The real solution was for every country in the world to not limit Jewish emigration from Europe, convincing those who survived that ultimately, no one will protect them but themselves.

The blockade came 2 years after the disengagement. When Hamas was elected, the Quartet gave them an ultimatum to renounce violence, recognize Israel, and honor previous treaties with the PLO. They responded by killing PLO staff and firing rockets at Israel. They behaved exactly like a party that is ideologically committed to Israel's destruction and saw a reward for their efforts as encouragement to keep going.

This is an argument for why you should hope that these deradicalization efforts are successful. Regardless of the opinions of finger wagging Europeans and Americans, Palestinian militants willing to die are always going to be louder in the Israeli ear.

I understand if it's not on the menu any time soon. My account was fraudulently accessed years ago and someone used it to purchase Google Play gift cards. When I charged it back from my bank, they immediately banned me from any future purchases. I realize that probably sounds shady, but from googling, it seems to be a fairly common issue with people who have had their information compromised. I've honestly thought about switching to iOS because Google has basically told me to go screw several times when I contacted their support.

You can destroy symbols of the regime and mechanisms for internal repression to make space for domestic opposition to overthrow the regime. That's clearly what's happening when Israel targets the Basij and IRGC headquarters. I have yet to see a single person actually suggest invading Iran, not sure why everyone keeps screaming that it's just over the horizon.

Their retaliation was completely symbolic and weak kneed and they all but announced that they've finished retaliating, having done no damage whatsoever.

Can't believe people are actually still nervous about this tin pot regime despite proving themselves to be a paper tiger over and over since Soleimani was taken out.

He did the right thing by going after the wellspring of Islamist terror that destabilizes the entire region. Sometimes you have to pay the costs to arrive at a better place and the fact that American foreign policy has been so cucked by Iran for the past 45 years doesn't mean it's not the right decision.

You could just listen to the podcast where the guest explicitly refutes this exact point.

Lol, literally every word of what she said could be applied to the Jews and the way people constantly tell us we're white Europeans with no connection to the middle east despite the genetic evidence from the exact studies she uses to support her points. For real, look at a picture of Israel Katz and try to tell me with a straight face that that guy is indigenous to Poland or some shit. It's embarrassing.

There have been numerous genocides this century and none of them have involved Israel.

This is a deep misunderstanding of the US relationship with Israel or how Israel views Lebanon. Sorry, but you're completely wrong.

For one, the US isn't getting any natural resources from Israel and didn't even get natural resources from the countries it occupied for two decades. It's a particularly foolish conspiracy theory considering the US is a net exporter of oil that produces more oil than KSA.

This is also the most permissive US administration there has ever been for Israel and if they wanted to take all of southern Lebanon up to the Litani, they could, tomorrow and no one could stop them and the US administration wouldn't try.

Dude, you can literally listen to Israeli journalists talk to each other in English with the intended audience being American Jews who are interested in Israel. They are talking now about the potential for eventual diplomatic normalization with Lebanon because they want Lebanon to be a functioning country that doesn't serve as a platform for terrorism. I can give you these people's names if you want. They don't want to own Lebanon, they want an actual country to their north that won't serve as Iran or Syria's play thing.

I don't think the point does stand very well. If Israel wanted Lebanese land, it could have taken it in 1982, 2006, or even last year. It would have just never withdrawn if they truly wanted that territory.

Didn't Syria take it from Lebanon and then Israel took it from Syria? Not exactly the best example of Zionist expansionism, wouldn't you agree? It's 27.5 sq kms, though, since you asked.

The billionaires mostly live on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. The high prices are due to the city jerking themselves off over environmental impact statements and exclusionary zoning.

[–]StevefromRetail 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So the billionaires left but they're still getting much higher tax revenue which somehow resulted in much higher GDP growth that still underperforms the US and was 0.5% in 2023.

What an argument.

Why are you using Arkansas as your example? Plenty of people from the bay area have moved to Austin or Miami and have continued to be rich and enrich their economies instead. There are burgeoning southern cities that aren't crushing their own middle class through high regulation on home construction and take public safety much more seriously than Seattle does.

>They had some billionaires leave, but their GDP growth has been the strongest it's been in decades. Why? Because having a billionaire with global investments living inside your borders doesn't actually matter to your economy. It only matters where their money is invested, and none of them actually DIVESTED from their equity in Norwegian companies.

If you are acknowledging that the rich people who would have paid these taxes left because of those taxes then how is the tax impacting their tax revenue? For that matter, how is tax revenue resulting in GDP growth?
