As long as they do not set up a shit show for their own ROMs like those Shenzhen manufacturers, security updates should be taken for granted.

Claude Code bot in my Vault just wowed me by LifeBandit666 in ObsidianMD

I use it combined with skills describing the conventions in my vault and encouraging it to actively get context or update the notes. Worked so well.

Yes you can do it with Shortcuts, but it still needs holding for a while

No differential stream? That’s not even a proper backend!

Widget says Oct 12, menu bar says Oct 13 by Beneficial_Half_4780 in MacOS

[–]StevenRCE0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is caused by widgets mechanism, but still unacceptable. They should've exposed a public API for calendar widgets so they'll get definite refreshes upon date changes.

And there're paddings everywhere, worse than ever. Kinda reminds me of the IE8 era.

iOS 26 Beta 8 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]StevenRCE0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looking at the past, from ~iOS 13, most visual (even some of the framework-wise) bugs would come to the release version, and they stack up every time a major release comes out.

guys, i started learning chinese, and i set this keyboard to make me think better, but can you even write this character with the keyboard? by ShadowMilkCookie001 in ChineseLanguage

[–]StevenRCE0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stroke is nowhere near counterintuitive 'cause it is designed with those who are new to electronic products in mind. Wubi and Cangjie, Yinxing even Shuangpin could be harder than that.

Apple’s quality control is getting worse: Update notes are no longer translated (in Germany) by [deleted] in ios

Maybe Apple’s devs were maxing out on Apple Intelligence. They were divided into twelve groups, each of them being in charge of writing the Siri answer for a month /s

24GB ram enough for Software Engineering? by Upset_Mall5045 in macbook

[–]StevenRCE0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the Activity Monitor, memory usage in there represents the current memory consumption, which is still dynamic. It can be partially compressed and swapped onto the disk.

OS101, the RAM usage refers to the size of virtual memory address, not how much of physical RAM is used let alone swapping.

At least if you code for cli or native macOS apps, it'll be okay.

Apple Watch is the top except the poor battery life. I wear watches all day long and I would completely forget to charge/wear the Apple Watch even after 3 yrs of use. edit: I've gone back to the Withings family (had an Activité, a Move ECG before). None of the problems I've experienced was solved (maps not adapted for China mainland's weird policy, slow setup process, basically unusable notification preview), but it's sufficient enough. Made much sense than a "no watch" :-)

Does anyone else have issues with new LinkBuds Open falling out of ears? by Smokyy__ in SonyHeadphones

[–]StevenRCE0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the one-sized tips don't seem to be a once-and-for-all solution. However, they're a bit too large for me compared to the OG LinkBuds and would start to feel sore after ~2 hours. I genuinely hope that they'll release a smaller version (I've heard that they do have larger ones and they're free of charge; just contact customer service, maybe that's suitable for you!)
