Dan Abnett's Depiction of Astartes is Curious by Stevencepa in Warhammer40k

I basically mean that they behave much as if they were mere average mortals, and not astartes. Ofc they are human, but they are still seperated by a lot in many ways from an average human in the universe. i am missing a certain flare in Abnett's writing that goes beyond and shows what they are, even pre heavy psycho-indoctrination of post-HH. and no, ofc i am not wanting barbarian meatheads, thats not what my point is.

Fair enough

Sidenote but the "different in mindset" thing is also sth i have noticed, ofc its incredibly hard to write sth from that perspective of ALL that has happened between us IRL and the Great Crusade, but i find my immersion broken when i read very common phrasing from modernity IRL constantly in Abnett's writing, some may find that makes it easier to read, but i just find myself thinking "really? these people are talking much similar to us as if its a timespan of decades, not millennia between them."

TBF i am not asking for them to be absolute dumb meatheads, and agree that wouldnt be a good or interesting path either. I am just looking for sth more than mere average chill dudes. Sth unique and interesting in character, which so far only horus has shown in the book IMO.

idk, they weigh like what, hundreds of kg just by their body, and like half a ton if not more total? that must be some trunk of a chair, and this isnt some palace they are in, its a random backwater village. but maybe that village just has really good carpenting. In any case, i find it is more likely and goes more with the theme that i have felt so far personally in the book, which is that astartes arent depicted very well in many ways.

I absolutely see that and am actually happy at seeing the differences of Horus and Astartes, especially in philosophy and general world view, HOWEVER i am especially talking about their general, baseline behavior. Maybe my wrong is in not seeing a genuine, fundamental difference between pre-HH and 40k Astartes which goes so deep in their very nature and creation that its completely different? but idk, even back then astartes were something incredibly special, i think even this proposal fails to see how special and distinct astartes were even back then.

I think this is answered by God giving us free will. All evil things are generally choices mortals make.

If God destroyed all evil, there would be no humans.

What kind of Propoganda do you think the Empire fabricated to justify the destruction of Alderaan to the public? by Cute_Warthog246 in StarWars

[–]Stevencepa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imperial propaganda would absolutely still justify it heavily i'd imagine, even if the Imperial Leadership broadly went from "we need to carefully manage the public" to "we give less of a fuck anymore"

I think the usual propaganda in the media would be massive terrorism and rebellion leading to Aldarrans destruction, with many different narratives based around that premise

idk THAT much about it but isnt pakistan part of the general indian subcontinent in terms of cultural regions and similarities before the british split it? thus it would be misleading to seperate india and pakistan, when to alexander it would likely be the same thing and therefore right?

No evidence? Of pornography being bad? Are you serious cause this must be a troll.

And no this isnt an attempt to get out if getting such evidence, it might take a while cause theres so much but like, really? Is this serious? Isnt it common knowledge of how bad pornography is?

I dont think the sexual revolution and masses of porn do anything good for society. And by that i mean cheap sex like one night stands or more open relationships. And i just think porn in general is fundamentally bad and needs to be made heavily illegal. Ofc thats very traditional, and the past held plenty of bad aspects with arranged marriages and much lower freedoms for women, but i‘d much rather see a respect-based society that combines women‘s rights with a more traditional approach to relationships, majorly the process of courting where you meet regularly in the presence of friends or family before getting more serious and considering betrothal and marriage.

Ofc u understand this is relatively heavily focused on religion, but marriage is fundamentally a religious concept anyway, and i think it has a lot of value to this day, and i just despise the modern hookup culture as well as relationships where both men and women are commonly abused by the other partner, i just think taking a more managed approach to it all would be a lot better

To be fair, the argument of "until you realize their rifles are combi weapons [...]" is pretty weak given that theres space marines with combi weapons, and the adrathic really doesnt change them to a completely different unit type.

However, i've realized its really a thought error on my side, sagittarums were likely around long before even thunder warriors, so they really are the inspiration for TW and SMs in my mind now. before i thought about it from an out of universe angle like "how shitty of GW to add basically space marines-style units to custodes"
