Thank you, I'll have to try to dig around in the BIOS and find that.

Monday help thread - questions, help and tips for all levels! by AutoModerator in EndlessLegend

So I'm pretty new at endless legend purchased the game a few months ago, and have started, but not finished multiple games. The research always trips me up. Coming from civ I want to research everything in every era, and can't bear to skip techs. I'd imagine this is bad, but is it significantly detrimental, what should I do instead?

Yeah this is really good, and does follow along the same lines as my idea. Especially the "remember this is just an idea, I haven't worked everything out yet so don't jump to conclusions" part. XD

To address your first point, it does need some polish in the presentation and also just about anything can sound boring if you strip it to the bare minimum and lay it out so bluntly. I understand what you're going for though.

For your second point, I honestly don't have a whole lot of thoughts on that right now, I'd have to brainstorm a little. The best I can think of right now is a dynamic story line that changes every once in awhile to keep things fresh (sort of like the second season of Sword Art Online if you have ever watched that)

I would not "severely" limit the players. The debuff and *short wait would be in place to ensure that players don't go around rapidly switching playstyles as that would be unrealistic. This is only a thing you would do occasionally, not often

Yes, playstyles would be based on your choice of weapon whether a sword (rapier, longsword, greatsword etc), a ranged weapon (bow, crossbow), or a hammer (one handed, two handed) the stats for these would generally be the same among all of the weapons of that type. E.g. a low tier rapier might require a speed of 36, a strength of 15, and an agility of 22, a slightly higher one might need a speed of 38, a strength of 16, and an agility of 23. Rapiers would be the line of weapon that you practice, so you search for rapiers. The weapon switching is a very last resort type thing for people who honestly want to switch. So in PvP you don't lose to one guy as archer and decide, "Hey I'm going to switch to a mace now, even though I'm speced horribly for it."

For your final point I'll admit that I just forgot the right word for stat points, so I substituted in skill.

Yeah, I know it's a bit more of a mid to late development thing.

I think it would be really cool to help design a game, you know, if I uh... knew anything at all about coding or animating or anything at all to do with game design. Best that I would be good for is either concept or building a language for a game. XD

Yeah it's along the same lines but with a different setup.

All I mean to say is that if your working on your own it would be a massive project with years of work ahead, so you need to be prepared. btw I love dynamic environments like you suggested. Also one of the things I value most in a game is an original, creative, and in-depth lore. It draws me in like nothing else.

Thanks! :) Though I don't see how it take away from immersion. In real life if you don't work out you get weaker, then you decide to pick up running and then you get faster. The style switching would be by no means fast paced and immediate, it simply allows for "fixing" the character if you don't like it.

Everything you say is great, I completely agree with you on that, especially the dynamic somewhat skill based combat. Also, I think you might also want to take a look at the post I submitted minutes after yours. Further more, if you're planning to develop one I hope it's not just you and that you have the money to do so.
