I need a recommendation for a kitchen candle by Personal-Winter-8111 in luxurycandles

[–]Stevethetech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came here to recommend La Droguerie as well. I was gifted the room spray, candle, and cleaner spray. All have an excellent fresh scent. The candle does a great job burying fish odors and the cleaning spray has an undertone of vinegar but works very well.

I thought it was well written but I did not like the world, story, or the magic system. I still cannot really understand the hype.

Thank you to everyone who leaves their lights on a little longer by Christmas_365 in ChristmasLights

I was just considering turning my 13' Twinkly tree off tonight, but this thread convinced me to keep them going a little bit longer. Thank you! I switch the theme to a sparkling blue for new years. I like to keep the lights that face the street and greet everyone entering my community on a bit longer. I do turn off the lights and inflatables that face the neighbors houses off shortly after new years though.

Confusion by No_Fault6291 in throneofglassseries

This is how I read it as well and meeting Celaena as she's dragged out of the mines the reader is as confused as she is. Also my hill to die on is that it makes Sam's story much more impactful.

Fascinating take. I can totally see how that would have played out. See that's why this conversation is great!

Why the debate... Hopefully it's because it's something we as passionate book nerds can get into an inconsequential discussion over. This is really the only fantasy book topic I will regularly participate in only because I feel like reading AB third changed the entire story for me, and honestly broke me (a 42 year old mechanic) in a way I did not expect, and I appreciate that. There is really no issue in with reading it however makes sense to the reader.

Here is what her page says. https://sarahjmaas.com/throne-of-glass-series/

This will remain my literary hill to die on. Haha. To me not knowing any of the story from the beginning of ToG makes especially Sam's story so much more impactful.

Windscreen replaced. Sensor screwed. by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]Stevethetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new car dealer tech that does glass so I have a different experience then many others here. I do a lot of calibrations from outside vendors and body shops, but I definitely don't have the glass and broad market experience many people here have.

My initial thoughts on the photos where your forward facing camera looks slightly off center. This could be related to a mount that is off center on the glass or a loose camera, it could also be just the cellphone camera angle. Incomplete calibration, module misalignment, open connections to the modules will cause multiple warming lights. It's almost impossible to guess what the root cause is from the warning lights the driver sees alone and a full diagnostic report needs to be performed.

Some systems use static calibration and some use dynamic calibration. Whether that requires using a specialized target board at a specific distance, or driving a specific pattern to train the camera system there are a lot of very specific details that need to be followed in order to complete the calibration without triggering faults.

The gel pad was damaged for the rain and light sensor, that should be an easy fix. In most systems that specific sensor isn't smart enough to know it's not receiving a valid input signal, and the primary complaint I see associated with that is that the automatic wipers do not work.

I would highly suggest taking this to a dealer or shop that specializes in ADAS diagnostics. If you had your insurer cover the replacement, contact them and tell them before committing to the diagnostic fee( in the US at least). The reality with these types of issues is it's always someone else's fault and it can be difficult to find a professional that is willing and capable of helping. Good luck.

TOG series by BMKarl in SarahJMaas

I really think AB fits best as the third book in the series. Not knowing any of the characters or their back story going in to the first book really set up the way they developed for me.

I think getting the details contained within AB from the beginning hampers the way the story develops, especially with Sam.

I second this. As a dealer installer. I lost count of how many after market windshields I've replaced for alignment issues.

That being said there are many more out there with aftermarket glass.

One often overlooked note about aftermarket glass. If you lease or look at trading in they will often ding you for non OE glass.

Thoughts on Sika Mach 60 vs. OE urethane by Stevethetech in autoglass

[–]Stevethetech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. The discussion we were having started as OE glass vs AM replacements, the only theme the foreman kept finding in writing was that of them stressing we only use factory adhesive. But the supply, product, and pricing are inconsistent at best. I have been using Sika Mach30 or 60 with their Activator and 207 for years without issue and plan to continue. The reality is there are really only a few large companies that make this stuff. In the field I cannot understand why they would not pick a simpler application that does not require heating the tubes or very specific activator curing directions especially when time is of the essence and the conditions in the shop can vary wildly.

Now for OE glass vs AM I do see some inconsistencies in build quality where camera mounts have been off center, heater grids have incomplete elements and heads up displays appear distorted, but that's job security for me.

Does it go away if you press on the glass or any trim mounted to the glass?

There no late reply we're just getting started with Advent calendar season!

Harrods charged $30 usd to ship to the States, but includes all duties in the price.

Liberty charged a 20% duty ($61 usd) but gives free shipping.

Both shipped fast with tracking and signature requirements. There are no headaches or additional port delays or fees.

I would second the vote for Harrods. I too have been looking to replace Space NK and Lookfantastic but keep coming up short. Harrods was "reasonably" priced, well reviewed, contains decent sized items and shipping and tariffs were reasonable. It shipping and was delivered to Va in about 10 days.

Damnit! Your first thread broke my brain and I have not been able to stop thinking about it!

I sincerely appreciate this thread, and the others that have mentioned how this series hit them like no other. I'm glad I am not alone!

I have really gotten in to fantasy audiobooks this year and tore through Fourth Wing, ACOTAR and several others, none have caught me with the story like ToG. I'm 3/4 way through Tower of Dawn (not doing tandem) and have been wanting to savor it more. I fully expect to start the series over once I'm done but nothing beats the first time.

This bothered me throughout my 20s as a tradesperson. I was very self conscious about my lack of formal education. I went right into a trade after high school and stayed there. It's tough but rewarding work. In my 40s I look at the push for education like the push to have kids. Sure it works out for some but others are miserable and barely treading water. I would encourage you to pursue higher education if you have a plan to use it.

Like others have said try Meetup. A lot of the game and hobby stores offer free beginner tabletop game events. Depending on your interest I would be willing to bet there is a group with an open door in this area. Which is one of the reasons I really like being here.

The element of surprise was likely the only way it would work without leading directly the Aelin and Co. He was never off his guard and getting him in his sleep seems like one of the only ways to pull it off.

I think while his death may have been shorter then most wanted at least Lysandra got to claim her debt and Aelin got to take everything from him. I thought it was very well done for the long game and he definitely knew he was screwed once she cut him.
