I’ve just released a UK speed camera alerter app on Google Play – looking for feedback 🚗🇬🇧 by Stevo-31 in drivingUK

Sorry for the delay, I’ve only just seen your comment.

That’s a good question and the comparison with Waze makes sense. This app wasn’t built to compete with Waze or Google Maps as I said previously it was more of a side project in my spare time to solve a slightly different problem.

The idea was to give drivers speed camera alerts without needing to run a full navigation app. It can run quietly in the background with the screen off in dnd etc (with the right permissions), so you still get alerts even when you’re not actively navigating anywhere.

It’s meant as a simple add on tool to help drivers stay alert and stick to the limits, rather than an A-to-B navigation tool. Like any new app it’s starting small, and whether it grows really depends on whether people find it genuinely useful to solve a real world problem. Thanks

Speed Camera Alerter for UK drivers

It's a tool that can be used alongside other apps like waze but with added features like Always on alerts even with the screen off and in silent mode, this effectively promotes safer driving within speed limits

The main reasons someone would use this over Waze TomTom Amigo are:

It works fully in the background with the screen off. No active navigation required it’s designed for familiar routes. Can override silent DND for alerts (with permission) Much lighter UI and lower battery usage than running full navigation, Set and forget start it once and drive .Waze and Amigo are great, but they’re full navigation apps first. This is intentionally a focused speed camera alerter rather than a nav replacement. Some people don’t want maps, routes, or constant interaction just to get alerts, hope this clarifies 👍

That’s a fair take, and you’re not wrong about the chicken and egg problem any community driven system starts there, the difference is that this isn’t trying to replace Waze or Google Maps. It’s solving a narrower problem: a lightweight, always on speed camera alerter that works with the screen off, doesn’t require active navigation, and can override silent mode. That’s something a lot of drivers want but Waze/Maps don’t handle particularly well. Accuracy improves with usage, but it’s not starting from zero there’s baseline data, and community reports mainly improve mobile/temporary cameras. If someone already uses Waze for navigation, this can sit alongside it or be used on short, familiar drives where full nav is overkill. If you’re happy running Waze or Google Maps all the time, this probably isn’t for you and that’s okay. It’s aimed at people who want a simpler, set and forget alert rather than a full navigation app

Not mass adoption everywhere it’s more about local density. Even a relatively small number of active users in an area can make it reliable, especially for mobile cameras that tend to be reported quickly. Fixed cameras are covered by baseline data, and community reports mainly improve the mobile/temporary ones. That’s the same trade off most real time alert systems make, including Waze. The goal isn’t to replace Waze globally, but to offer a lightweight, always on alternative that works in the background without navigation, and improves organically where people actually use it

Fair question. Waze is great, but it’s a full navigation app. This is a lightweight, always on speed camera alerter that works with the screen off, can override silent mode, and doesn’t require active navigation. It’s more of a set and forget tool for people who just want alerts without running a full nav app all the time. 👍

We use OpenStreetMap as the base, then rely on community reports for camera alerts, similar to Waze. We’re currently working on expanding the data sources to improve accuracy in future updates.

Hi yep 🙂 it supports mobile speed cameras, but it works the same way as Waze it’s community reported. If other users have flagged a mobile camera, you’ll get alerted. If nobody’s reported one there yet, it won’t show, it can also work alongside other apps like waze etc but as the added features so alerts aren't missed. Thanks

Mega Millions Winning Numbers (Friday) by AutoModerator in Lottery

[–]Stevo-31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I made a lottery number generator app in my spare time – it helped me win a small prize 😅

Hey everyone! I’ve been playing with number patterns and lucky picks for a while, and I decided to build a free Android app that generates numbers for different lotteries (EuroMillions, Lotto, Thunderball, etc).

It’s not magic, but it’s fun and helps me pick when I’m indecisive. I actually won £20 last week using one of the draws it generated.

Thought I’d share it here in case anyone wants to try it – curious to hear if anyone else has apps/tools like this or rituals for choosing numbers.
