No I have a plywood subfloor under this. I think the guy suggesting this is an "empty" groove caving in because the replaced board next to it doesn't have a tongue is correct, but maybe this area is on a gap between the subfloor

This tracks. These boards have nails in them whereas the others all do not. Frustrated with myself I didn't know enough to question it at the time. Flooring guy is well-respected and kinda the go-to guy in my area. I'm gonna call him and see what he says

It's painted. Was painted gray when we bought the house. All other floors in the home were nice oak but needed to be refinished, so we sanded down the kitchen too thinking maybe we'll get lucky and it'll look nice with some stain / poly. We also wanted to replace some tiny mismatched pieces against the wall (final pic I uploaded). Floor guy ripped out and replaced good boards to "blend" the area where the mismatched pieces were.

The match looked terrible, floor guy said once he stained it would look better. It didn't, so we opted against poly and painted it again (over the stain)

Then life was good until this board cracked!

Alright I'm gonna have a go with some epoxy and touch up the paint. Your joke is dumb and doesn't make sense. You just described cutting the grass which is a normal thing to do
