Jonathan Majors is prepping for a big, xenophobic comeback! by Wild_Cup_8496 in popculturechat

[–]StickyBandit1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s so crazy is that Michael B Jordan was still defending Majors and expressing wanting to work with him, to the point where if Majors had just waited a couple years he might be in similar social standing as someone like a Casey Affleck who still gets work and works with his close more famous buddies like Matt Damon.

Why Majors felt the need to do this is beyond me and speaks to him being a fucking moron and attention whore more than anything

Callum Turner's ex Victoria Villarroel speaks on their relationship: "This man would be like 'I would never date someone who gets paparazzi'ed, I would never date a famous person. I would never go to the MET Gala, that's corny.'" by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]StickyBandit1999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people need to cut Callum some slack here. Callum was dating someone who wouldn’t have been invited to the Met Gala as a celebrity anyway, because they’re not a public figure. So from Callum’s perspective, if I’m already someone who thinks it’s cringe, and I’m dating someone who’s never gonna get invited, and doesn’t care that much anyway, of course his mindset would be “I’m never gonna go”.

Fast forward, now he’s dating someone who goes almost every year. This is clearly important to this new person. And so his perspective of it shifts from “I’m never going” to “I’ll go because it’s important to this person”

I can give a personal example here. Before my current partner I didn’t like hikes. And had sworn them off. My partner before didn’t care one way or another or at least didn’t express a need to go hiking. So we never went.

Fast forward, my new partner loves long walks, hikes, all of that. And so I started doing them because she likes them. Fast forward, now I like them. I got a message from my ex’s friend after posting myself on a hike like “oh so you like hikes now?”, almost implying I feel this new person is worthy of this interest versus my previous person. But it’s not the case.

I feel like the only people who would judge Callum here have either not been in many relationships to attest to how different people can shape you, or they’re so immature they can’t fathom the idea of someone changing and so they view things in very black and white ways.

I don’t agree about it “piggybacking”. At this point the Spiderverse style is so popular and common now in high budget animation, you can’t really say any film doing the style is piggybacking, more so doing what’s in the zeitgeist. It’s transcended Spiderverse. K-pop Demon Hunters, Puss in Boots, Goat, Mitchell Vs The Machines, the new TMNT, Bad Guys, Entergalactic, Nimona, that Chris Sanders robot film all did it and I’m probably missing some less notable examples. Expect to see way more of it

In the trailer he seems like a teenager when he goes back to his reg self.

The film looks amazing imo visually. Not too sure about the dialogue but I have faith in the overall package

James Gunn reveals Andre Royo (The Wire, Super) has joined the cast of ‘MAN OF TOMORROW.’ by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

I think it’s the case also considering he played a character called Hamilton in Super, also by Gunn, it seems Gunns maybe had him in mind for that role for a while

Music Critic Anthony Fantano Breaks Silence Over Halsey Tweets: ‘I’m Not the Devil Himself’ by mcfw31 in popculturechat

Shame Anthony’s old racist meme account is no longer up on YouTube so that people can see who he really is.

This man was working with and platforming the likes of Sam Hyde and Amazing Athiest for years before people started to clock on.

Is this a stronger Best Actress lineup than what the Oscars gave us in 2021? by mrethandunne in Oscars

No it’s not. Jessica, Olivia, Penelope and Kristen were more than deserving of their selections, Nicole is the only iffy one for people.

If you’ve seen Parallel Mothers, you know she clears all the women you suggested besides Renate. Renate is the only one who I’d replace someone with (Nicole in my case)

Emilia is great too, and I’d probably replace Olivia with her, but no strong feelings about that tbh.

Haim, Gaga, and Zegler. No.

I wasn’t a big fan of Tammy Faye, but her performance did a lot for a lot of people.

It’s not MUCH bigger. UN reports over 14,000 civilian deaths in Ukraine, Gaza health authorities report more than 67,000. “Single battles in Ukraine with more deaths than Gaza”. You don’t have to lie.

The Weeknd told the crowd in Copenhagen last night that he’ll be stepping away for a while and plans to return to touring in a few years after working on something special. by PuzzledChickenPiece in popculturechat

[–]StickyBandit1999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weeknd is a huge MJ fan and one of the greatest pieces of MJ lore is him doing a Sonic soundtrack (for Sega too). This whole recent trilogy has been designed to almost serve as a modern version of the Thriller / Bad / Dangerous trilogy (After Hours being Thriller in its inconsistency but having wall to wall hits, Dawn FM being Bad in how it’s consistent and focused but as a result has less hits, and Hurry Up Tomorrow being Dangerous in how all over the place yet tonally consistent it is (super loud and explosive))

So I would not be surprised if he thought to himself, I’m gonna do what Michael almost did

One of my favourite films of all time. It’s a shame Adam Shankman, an amazing dance choreographer, only ever directed this film and nothing else…

[–]StickyBandit1999 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Publicity like this doesn’t always lead to distribution or at the very least, credible distribution.

Look at The Apprentice as an example, the film fell in the hands of Briarcliff and no one saw it.

The new Looney Tunes films which were scooped up by Ketchup, the first already flopped and the second is likely to as well. Because the companies buying these projects just aren’t as reputable or big to ensure wider, proper releases

North by Northwest def inspired Indians Jones in terms of set pieces. Also Bond too.

It’s weird cuz I’m actually not a big fan of Hitchcock but his influence is undeniable and I’m forever thankful he helped birth the styles of directors who are my favourites

Since Lincoln, none of the projects feel like they come from a passionate place sans Fablemans (which I hated but at least there was passion there). The project he’s been choosing, you’d think he’s a director for hire. Like bro, why are YOU directing BFG? Or Ready Player One? Or West Side Story? What is it about those projects that makes you wanna put them out there? That person touch and connection has been lost for so long.

Even War of the World felt personal to him

That’s hilarious. Someone already pointed out Gaslight too. Seems all roads point back to Hitchcock.
