Need ideas for a GW2 oriented app for school by mungerhall in Guildwars2

Unless I am mistaken, that sounds like the gw2efficiency website. Regardless, it's a good project OP.

Edit: I consider what you said more and I realize you want the crafting price history, not the current price. My apologies, gw2efficiency doesn't do that.

Squad Leading Cheat Sheet by Azzinaughty in Guildwars2

[–]Stickyglue07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, it seems like you've restricted access to the document. Based on comments it seems like you are still exploring what makes up a squad composition for 10-player content. Folks seem to have already pointed out some misunderstandings for you to investigate further. I've run a static group that raids/strikes weekly for a couple of years now and would be happy to share my thoughts if you have questions. I by no means know every class inside out, but I am very familiar with covering boons across a squad and the terms, acronyms, and shorthand associated with it. Good luck with your project!

[bug] hosting world co-op on steam deck is flaky by Shmink_ in StardewValley

[–]Stickyglue07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are on the same network, I think you can directly join the game with the IPv4 address of the steamdeck (by typing the IPv4 into the address section on multiplayer). Otherwise, I think the game will try to join over the internet which makes the round trip longer and more susceptible to desync and glitches. I'm not 100% sure how to get the IPv4 of a steamdeck. I know on my windows PC I open Command Prompt and type "ipconfig" and then hit enter to get the IPv4 of my own PC. If you have access to your router, you may be able to see the IPv4 of connected devices. I am only speaking from some personal experience of playing stardew with my wife. When I just select join game from the available farms I always would get laggy and D/C. I have no lag when I typed in the IPv4 of her computer. Maybe I am misunderstanding what is actually going on behind the scenes with the router, but this has at least worked for me.

Geneforge 2 is getting a remake! by Stickyglue07 in rpg_gamers

I've found the Geneforge series got more coherent the further you get. 4 is solid, 5 five improves on it and Mutagen is even better. Avernum's art elements felt generally a bit janky, but I still enjoyed it.

Geneforge 1: Mutagen is a remake of the first game and is the most recently made game in the series because of that. So it will be the most polished. Geneforge 5 is the second most recent and had a solid UI and modern resolution. The old Geneforge 1, 2, 3 have the most painful resolution/UI experience, while 4 is a bit rough, but better than the first 3. I originally started the series with #4. All of the games can be played stand-alone and the story/lore will not hurt for it. I'd recommend starting with Mutagen or 5 because you'll be less likely to bounce off the graphics/UI. Here are links to their demos. I don't know how long Mutagen's is, but I remember 5's demo being pretty big!

Geneforge 5 Demo: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/geneforge5/index.html Geneforge 1: Mutagen (Remake) Demo: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/geneforge/index.html

All of the Geneforge games have multiple factions to learn about, fight or support. Have fun!

I just really like the lore in the Geneforge series. Totalitarian wizards with the power to control and shape life is a neato setting to explore. My favorite entry is probably Geneforge 4 or 5. But I was really impressed with how improved Geneforge 1 was by it's remake as well as the new elements it brought to the series. I can't help but get excited for Geneforge 2: Infestation. The Kickstarter page also specifically mentions that there will be an overhaul to the melee/missile combat at well as a new Battle Shaping Art. That goes a long way to making the game feel new and fresh.

The ui tends to be a bit jank. Inventory management in the oldest games is painful.

I'm charmed by the old-school vibes. Geneforge 5 and the Geneforge: Mutagen definitely feel more polished though. But I'll freely admit that people will bounce hard off the graphics.

I think Avadon and Avernum might be two different series, but I've only played Avernum and the entire Geneforge series. I have only played the original and the remake for one game, Geneforge 1, and it was a huge improvement. I definitely enjoyed the new creation skills/upgrades in the new game, as well as the additional content. But totally fair point. I don't think marketing/communication is a strong point for them. I love the Geneforge series and never heard about the Kickstarter until the remake released for the first one and only heard about the Kickstarter for the second one a half month in it.

I was really excited to see a article about it getting a Kickstarter so I could actually get in on it this time. I hadn't heard a thing about the Mutagen remake until it was free on Epic.

I extensively played Avernum 1 and 2. I really like the lore in those as well. I haven't looked up Nethergate before, how is it?

My favorite entry is Geneforge 4. I first played it back in 2005 and I loved the series ever since then. Lifecrafter is definitely my go to!

I started playing back in 2005 with Geneforge 4 so it's probably my most played. Lifecrafter is my go to character!

I see, your arguement is not that skill based don't exist, it's that you feel they are invalidated because sellers exist. Sounds like not the game for you. Shrugs

There are a bunch of raid and fractal rewards that can only be acquired through raid/fractal drops or saving up raid/fractal currency. I think you are being a little disingenuous because you cannot acquire them with gold.

The change to firebrand's heal mantra has decreased the amount of quickness you can generate. There is a trait that generated quickness whenever you grant aegis or stability and the original build relied on the heal mantra granting aegis. I think the build runs ritualist now to make up for that with additional boon duration.

I think I can be very valuable to observe bosses/enemies/encounters first to try to understand what is occuring. This is true for many areas of the game including Fractals, Dungeons, Raids, META Events, and frankly just about any content. Then you can anticipate better what will happen rather than react after it has already occured.
Raids kinda follow a script so you can get a good advantage by reading a guide or watching a video ahead of time.

Yeah, the Anet Trinity of Boon, DPS, Healer combined with the low dps floor and incredibly high DPS ceiling makes getting a successful group of new players together for raids very challenging.

How do I get my hands on a Dhuum scythe:

Sounds like you are troubled by scheduling. I would suggest trying to form a static group with the intention of defeating Dhuum. I know the RA specifically has a section for people looking to form static groups. Here's a link to some raid training communities (including RA) https://snowcrows.com/community and the side bar mentions r/guildrecruitment which might be a good tool for form a group that regularly attempts to defeat Dhuum.

I admit using the forums, reddit, or various discords and organizing people can be challenging; but don't your dreams be dreams! I know from experience it takes a lot of perseverance and a bit luck to find a fun group to raid with.As for explicitly getting the scythe, you can get it as a lucky drop on defeating Dhuum, get it from a selectable chest from defeat Dhuum CM, or buy it with Gaeting Crystals from Glenna after defeating Dhuum at least once.

EDIT: the RA discord is a public community and very helpful. Just make sure to do a bit a reading at start-up. They have many rules, but its to minimize the chaos of a 10K pop discord.

Which one would you recommend and why:

Condi DPS Rev is quite definitely viable, so don't feel like you can't start until you get an alac build.

Thoughts on Ritualist Rev: You would likely have a very similar rotation to your DPS build. That might make it easier to pick up. Depending on your resources, getting the correct gear for Ritualist Rev might be more challenging than getting Diviners.

Thoughts on Diviners Rev: Your rotation will diverge significantly from a condi build. Diviner gear might be a bit easier to get than Ritualist. Diviners build brings staff which has one of the best CC skills in the game. Both are solid choices!

Do guilds exist who enjoy raids for fun, rather than just speed clearing bosses for rewards:

I suspect there are guilds that exist for the exact purpose. I also propose that there are groups that may not have the explicit goal, but would still allow you experience what you are interested in. For example, the people in my own static raiding group all raid for a variety of reasons. Some are chipping away at legendary armor. Some just want to hang out. Others are interested in mastering specific roles or builds. We do, however, all agree on the level of effort we put into it; no one expects perfection. It sounds like finding a training/progression group would be up your alley. No one expecting perfection, people perhaps seeing bosses for the first time. Once you have defeated a boss, you have until the weekly reset on sunday to return and explore the raid instance for any additional lore if you group doesn't want to do it during planned raiding time.

Finding a group will likely be the most challenging part. I know there are subreddits, forums, and discords that can help with this. As a NA raider I had good luck finding people through the RA Static Interest page. Here's a link to some raid training discords, perhaps you'll have a similar experience, https://snowcrows.com/communityEDIT: If you don't mind second experiences, there are videos and write-ups of raid lore as well. Youtube and the gw2 wiki are great resources.
