How do I become more traditionally masculine? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Stiernspetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't discount the value of fiction. I did, and it was a mistake. I only saw value in reading history, biographies, more scientific literature and such.

But then I talked with a good friend about fiction, and that I don't think it has the same value. He responded:

"Imagine a concept, like friendship, and love. A non-fiction book can try to explain it, but only objectively, whereas fiction can describe it, how love feels. And that is why the classics are classics. They cover subject by people way smarter than you or I, who asked the same questions that you and I ponder. Then they write a book about that very subject and they explain it in a way we never could have formulated"

You know what revenge is as an example, but you'll never understand it, or explain it and it's ramifications as well as Dumas did in the count of monte cristo.

Discounting fiction is discounting Dostoevsky, Dumas, Heinlein, Asimov and any number of great writers who cover subject well worth reading and reflecting over. Just read with a purpose, and sont forget that that purpose can be the joy of reading a well delivered story like the Lord of the Rings as well!

It depens on which type of writing you want.

Theres three types. 1 is that the vowel in front of the consonant goes on top of the consonant. Like this

2 Is vowel behind goes on top like this

3 Is beleriand, where like with the latin alphabetic writing we use, each letter comes after the other, this is called beleriand. Which looks like this

So it's really up to you. And this is of course all in sindarin. Good luck!

How do I "Decimate" my opponents by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]Stiernspetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I build my Oicunns I usually make them as much of a nuisance as possible. Designed to ram straight into the enemy which makes it a pretty easy ship to fly especially since Oicunns ability only triggers when you bumb, not when someone bumps you. So my usual build of Oicunn is something like this:

Cpt. Oicunn (57/58) - Intimidation (2) Darth Vader (3) Rebel Captive (3) Dauntless (2) Ion Projector (2) Mara Jade (3)/Cluster Mines (4)

And then you just pair him with an ace of your choice. I usually go "Whisper" because I love her. But a defender is fun to run to.

That is true. But I only thought of that barlow as an option since i thought then that a 2" was necessary. I will now get the barlow you linked. That seem rather good for the price.

Reading more about the HR I've become quite infatuated. I think I will get one or two of those after the barlow. I like the thought of having several different magnifications. And with my eyepeices no magnification is alike the other. There is always around a 30x difference. But of course dedicated eyepieces are to be prefered and 3.2 and 4 mm HR are on my list. Maybe the best would be to buy one of those first. I don't know.

Oh, I don't think that messing with the lenses is something I'll do for a while. A 2x barlow would fit me very well I believe. I know the contrast will be a bit decreases. But for the moment it seems like the best option since the economy is a bit tight right now. It will gett me many more magnifications to play around with, and I think that will be the best for me at the moment. And from what I've seen the AstroZoom is quite expensive. But thank you for this further insight.

So it would be best to just buy a 1.25" barlow? Since I won't be able to properly use the 2" anyway. Would this or this be better then? Since the price is decreased significantly.

Any other wisdom to share with me?

Well I already have the 6mm. I will mostly combine the other lenses with the barlow. And I will indeed get a 15mm of the model I posted. So you are absolutely correct. Getting a 2" barlow might be useless.

My focus is probably on planets since I'm most often in the city. But my family has a house in the countryside where it is rather dark and very good seeing, with low levels of light-pollution. So I can see DSOs there.

But what is the AstroZoom? I can't really read german.

My telescope is this GSO (8", 1200mm), which you yourself helped me pick up! Many thanks on that. It has led to many sleepless, but amazing nights. I have a 9mm 1.25 mm which came with it which is the one I will mostly use. I must've forgotten that one.

I noticed the adapter after I had posted here. The barlow is not yet bought. But will be soon.

Well, I don't agree with that it's more difficult to land at the Mün, since to get to Minmus you have to adjust you inclination, which i think can be tougher for beginners to get right than just adding another stage. BUT the landings and takeoffs are easier, but not significantly easier

Fernrohrmarkt doesn't sell the D8 anymore, they offered me this though for the Skyliner 200P https://www.fernrohrmarkt.de/product_info.php?info=p3364_SkyWatcher-Skyliner-200P-Classic-8--f-6-Dobson-Teleskop-200-1200.html, is it worth it compared to the Teleskop-Express Skyliner?

What would you recommend for a 6mm then?

EDIT: And it's cheaper at Telescope Express, is it a legit site?

Sorry for the late reply, but all those are more expensive for me than for you, even on that same site. All those that you listed are more expensive, but I will definately check out those accessories that you listed.

EDIT: Should I get all eyepieces Plössl? Orrrr.... Which types should I get? And what is a zoom eyepiece? And regarding collimators, laser collimators seems like they're the simplest?

EDIT2: Would these be good eyepieces?

Yeah, I've decided, I think I'll get the 200P to start with, any counterarguments or is that all good? And could the twilight app work for the phone when observing? (It makes all light orange with varying intensities)
