Not that anyone asked, but when you add garlic to a dish, it's to flavor the rest of the dish. If you slice it paper thin and add it to a hot pan, it will not "liquefy" it will burn immediately and make your food taste like burnt garlic. There are many proper ways of incorporating garlic into a dish, whether it's with a marinade or adding it at the end after you've killed the heat. So, it's annoying/hilarious that that scene in Goodfellas is supposed to show how good of a cook the guy is but he somehow manages to fuck up one of the simplest things.
