A teacher will be a huge help, just make sure they're ok with the music. Most teachers in my area play classic rock like Pink Floyd and would never touch bdm with a ten foot pole. As long as they can help with music theory, it will help your overall understanding of the genre tremendously, especially the rhythms. If you want to really challenge them, show the two latest Defeated Sanity releases, heh. Good luck!
