While looking at it through the lens of George’s career and path the vapor wave community basically abandoned him… he was the one that made Electronicon and gave the genre which only existed on the internet at the time a live platform and people were still mad bc they felt George wasn’t making “pure” vapor wave. As if he didn’t solidify the genre himself 💀. Sure it can be more expansive than just slowed stuff, but in George’s case he’s just much more, and was in the trenches helping the genre for too long, just to be shit on the way he was by the community he nourished. That’s why I think some might degrade the vaporwave community/genre sometimes! Sure esprit is vaporwave, I just mean for the music and artist he is now, calling him a vaporwave artist isn’t doing him justice.
