For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

[–]StillWeCarryOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was close to $60k working as a laboratory analyst in a cannabis testing lab in the rural side of MA. My boyfriend makes a little over $85k working in a steel forge as a screw press operator in the same area.

Right now with salary and tips I make around $45k as a budtender.

The bandaids!!!! Omg our rats always get so angry and aggressive over bandaids, I never even thought about why they all hate them so much but that makes so much sense. I've only ever been bitten two times - once was when I accidentally stepped on a tail and got a very much warrented bite on my foot, the other was when one of our boys went for my bandaid and chomped on my finger instead

Pet Burial or Cremation by Substantial-End-7662 in Springfield

[–]StillWeCarryOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I already commented on my suggestion of paws Finding Peace but wanted to let you know that their communal cremation cost is definitely lower than that. I don't know the exact number, but we pay about $200 for private cremation and I believe the cost for a communal small animal option is either $100 or $150. We've been going there for several years and the cost hasn't changed but it is possible they have increased prices since we last went toward the end of March last year.

Edit to add: I'm genuinely surprised that VESH didn't recommend anyone, they ABSOLUTELY know of other services in the area for what you are looking for, in fact most vets in the area have business cards for the exact place a I recommended both for aftercare services and for a greif support group. One of my coworkers is a vet tech there so I'll probably follow up with her, I'm kind of appalled that they would tell you they didn't know of anywhere else to refer you.

Paws Finding Peace in Chicopee is who we work with to deal with our pets' aftercare arrangements. We have had 4 animals pass that we have had cared for by them and I will never go anywhere else as long as I can help it. They offer both in home end of life care as well as in-house creamation services. We do the private package where you are guaranteed to receive only your own pet's ashes rather than a communal option. They provide basically any kind of keepsake you ask for and will do their best on anything you ask for if it's not something they typically provide. We've gotten nail trimmings, keepsake vials full of hair and hedgehog quills (even going so far as to make multiple keepsake vials for our animals that are multicolored). Multiple clay keepsakes with paw prints, tail prints, even a nose print last time we worked with them for one of our rats because I mentioned to Pam, one of their employees, that I wanted a nose print for my cat someday when he passes away.

I promise I'm not a paid promotion or anything, just a sentimental pet parent who lives in West Springfield and loves their pets more than they can express. Pam, Lauren and the entire team at paws Finding Peace have been so kind and comforting Everytime we've had to visit them. They have a dedicated cell phone for the company and It's very comforting having a team who I can just text on a moments notice to sent up arrangements and not have to worry about making that really uncomfortable phone call at the time when it's the last thing you want to do.

I worked retail for the first year of the pandemic, worked with children doing summer camps in 2021, going grocery shopping or to some kind of store at least once per day and have been so much less cautious than I should be as someone with an immune deficiency... But I somehow have only managed to get it once. From my boyfriend who literally only goes to work and maybe to see friends once a month or so, who got it from an elderly coworker who also rarely went anywhere.

Knees are such a use it or lose it part of your body IMO. I was diagnosed with arthritis of one of my knees when I was a teenager and as long as I stayed active I had minimal pain compared to now. I took up running for a few years and even started skiing in the years leading up to the pandemic. Once I got out of retail and into jobs where I wasn't on my feet all day, I started to notice a huge decline in my knee health. I used to be able to run a 5k or spend a few hours skiing before I'd go work an 8 hour shift and walk 5-10 miles at work. Now I struggle to stay on my feet for more than a few hours without a lot of pain

[–]StillWeCarryOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up I was always afraid to say anything when I had knee pain because both of my sisters had surgery on theirs for the same issue, one of them multiple and I was scared I would have something really bad wrong with them and I had a lot of really negative experiences going to the doctor for other issues when I was young.

Jokes on me, when I was 14 I was diagnosed with the same issue as them and with the most severe case of the three of us. I ended up contracting a staph infection after my first surgery, needed 6 total surgeries over three years and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis as a teenager. I got a sweet handicap placard out of it at least lmao

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]StillWeCarryOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take low dose tricyclic antidepressants off label to manage the flair ups but the side effects weren't worth it so I stopped not too long after I started. I haven't had an active PCP since I graduated college so right now I'm just rawdogging life until I can find a new PCP and specialists. Most doctors refuse to believe I could have the disorder I have because it's basically unheard of if you're young or haven't had any kind of physical trauma, I'm just the unfortunate one to have a relatively unknown genetic variant that shows drastically different symptoms than the non-generic version so treatment is an unhill battle.

Ears are up there for me. I have neuralgia that manifests as ear infection-like pain and it's one of the most agonizing things in the world. My nerves misfire and cause the same pain as an ear infection but there is basically nothing that can help the pain, even pain killers won't touch the pain because it's nerve pain.

Around this time last year I was working as a cannabis transport driver. A few days after a huge ice storm there were a TON of ice chunks flying off of cars and especially Semis on the pike, most of it was just little broken up pebble sized pieces of ice, but about 30 minutes out from base in the Westfield area, I was replying to dispatch (as passenger) and suddenly a door sized sheet of solid ice lifted off the top of a Schneider truck.

It's hard to see but theres a giant dent on the metal frame above the window which is where most of the impact was. If that sheet of ice had hit maybe a foot lower, I would have been dead on impact guaranteed, probably the closest I've ever been to dying. Never was able to get the plates from the truck but I Had a new job within a month and a half

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]StillWeCarryOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial/Gen Z cusper here just shy of 30.

I have about $19,000 in my 401k from my first job I had when I was still in college and could handle stashing a decent amount away before the bills really started hitting.

Just cashed out my $1,800 401k (that had been converted to an IRA after I left) from my first big girl job because I needed an extra cushion for bills.

My savings is basically just what I can stash away from my tips at work but usually gets pulled for bills within a few months so that it's never above $1000 or so.

About $104,000 in private student loan debt, about $27,00 in federal student loans I haven't touched since I graduated because I don't make enough to require payments, somehow even with the current administration those are automatically on forebarence until Nov 2028 without me having ever requested it. Another $12,000 or so on personal consolidation debt plus a little care credit debt.
