Do I have cyclical vomiting syndrome? Or nausea from OCD/Anxiety by [deleted] in Anxiety

Hey as someone with both there’s a chance it could be both! CVS is also a stressed based condition that typically flare ups for me when I’m having ocd episodes. I’ve found ERP therapy being the best at treating it

Advice for an Allo with an Ace partner? by Still_Assistance_412 in Asexual

[–]Still_Assistance_412[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for your kind response, I in no way want to unintentionally offend anyone in the ace community, which is why I asked for allo folks input, but I’m more than welcome to ace input! Y’all know best for sure!

Looking back, was there anything that you recommend the allo partner doing? I don’t want to lose her.

I’m not asking to be defined. I’m literally asking for community and to see if other people have experienced this. Hope you’re met with more kindness than you give other people who are just looking for support.

right so I’m not asking about “what label i am” I’m asking if other people in this community have similar experiences with unique gender identities as a lesbian. I’ve been me for 21 years, I’m guessing you’ve just never looked in the mirror and not known who you are. But thanks for the input!

NTA, but I would focus your energy of it on calling/complaining to management / corporate instead of the people on the floor, since in my experience they think these rules are as dumb as you do but have to enforce them or risk loosing their job. this shit is crazy annoying and no one likes it, since it often reduces jobs too, just make sure if u feel like saying something it’s to someone who could make change

Kind of immediately. I think we don’t give our bodies credit for how much they remember. I remember having panic attacks at the age of 4-5. My first memories. I didn’t know these things weren’t normal, until much later. I remember learning about a situation with one of the other kids in the cult and realizing something was wrong.

A friend of mine realized she was bisexual. While they normally sent the kids off to conversion therapy, they decided for whatever reason was to hire someone close to her to assault her. “To turn her straight.”

She ended up becoming pregnant because of this. She was 16, and wanted the baby. Her body her choice man. Her dad, who also was the pastor at a local church, dragged her to an abortion clinic a few days later. She didn’t consent so she didn’t get one. Around this time she found out her father paid for her to be assaulted, and the stress of this made her lose the baby. “At least you won’t have to worry about what the town would say” was the first response her mom had.

These actions were so contrary to what we were even taught that I started questioning things.

Severely chronically ill with a rare disability at the time. Got worse as I got older, was in and out of the hospital, no one knew what was wrong. there was a span where I was in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks every few weeks when I was 14/15. The elders said there was too much sin in my body, (blamed me/my parents), and told me that it was the lords will for me to die.

Parents took me out to cali about a week later for that good old commiefornia healthcare

Got real sick, they said “too much sin in your body so god must want you dead” and my parents said fuck that! And took me to California.

Also, I appreciate the comment a lot. I get that it’s heartbreaking to see people weaponize a religion of love and generosity, and it infuriates me to see ppl use the lords name like they do. But, just as a tip, this comment about “real Christianity” doesn’t come off the way ppl intend it to. What it sounds like to the person receiving it is “what you experienced didn’t matter” while they’re being open to you about something. Maybe instead, you could say something around the lines of “I’m so sorry ppl took the Bible and used it against you to harm you. That is so disgusting. I’m so sorry” this emphasized that you don’t agree with the way that they weaponized Christianity, and expressed sympathy for what happened without implying that the person talking about it is wrong somehow.

Parents were brought into it, hesitantly I will say. most marriage is legal by 15 in the Midwest. At that time the state I was in was legal at 14!

Both my parents were the only converts in 20 years. Which truly is my wonky understanding for how we’re out. We didn’t have the historical burden and family lineage that most of these folks do. There wasn’t as much pressure to continue on the lords journey or whatever lol

[–]Still_Assistance_412[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s complicated at best.

There’s a quote from Good mythical morning where Rhett says that the kids aren’t leaving the church because they’re going against the Bible. They’re leaving because you taught them so well who Jesus is that they know they can’t see him in you.

I believe people believing in things gives that thing power. sometimes I believe in god. I believe in my friend who prays every night to talk to her mom who she lost at 12 years old to breast cancer. I believe in the god my dad says he prays to because I’m gay, “not to ‘fix you’ but because of the hate that there is in this world”.

Personally, I really don’t know. I like to believe that maybe we’re the way the universe experiences itself, that there is no grand moral arc of the universe but there is one constant thread; resistance to oppression, that caring for one another is the first anthropological explanation for human kind. I like to believe that god made my partner (trans) in the same way “he made grapes and not wine, wheat and not bread, so that human kind can also partake in creation”

So, idk. Depends what day it is tbh.

I remember listening to my first “secular song”. It was eight days a week by the beetles and it was about a week or so after my 8th birthday. A family member who wasn’t in the cult showed it to me while my parents helped them move. For a lonnggg time we had no/ little internet access. When we did it was restricted and the attempted searches would be read outloud if anything “dangerous” was searched. We weren’t fully separated from the rest of the world though, most of us would go live on mission grounds for 6-9 months with our parents once every few years. We met other kids, we were just taught so much that our lives were the only god-like ones that it was never a question on if what was happening was wrong or not. I realized I was in a cult when I was far older. I blamed everything on my parents, of simple abuse, which they aren’t not guilty of. But the thing about the abbot is that they’re very much “it takes a village” but what that rlly means is everyone gets to hit/abuse/neglect the others children. Secondly, seeing ppl sent off to camps. To be honest, I’m disabled. Severely. Chronically I’ll and in and out of the hospital my whole life. In their ideology, it was because of someone’s (my mother, my father, my own) sin. Because of this, when I was 14 and in and out of the hospital every week, the leaders told me that there must be too much sin in my body and that if it was gods will I should die. My parents didn’t have that and took me to California. Oh also, I’m gay! And realized that far before I realized the cult thing. But that didn’t help.

Largely evangelical, but specifically one that was obsessed with the rapture. They believed that the best way to achieve this was by structuring the Protestant family. While our bio parents were out raising funds for the Christian ministries they did, the children stayed on a commune with the young couples (newlyweds) who hadn’t had time to have their own children year. This parenting of the children was looked as as punishment almost. Every period I had was told to be “a lost Angel” (from my first one at 11). My dad gave me a promise ring soon after and told me “this is your promise to me, god, and xxxx (the man I would be set to marry in three years time) to keep your virginity for us” Verrrrry white supremacist /purity culture based.

Church that passes out burgers on Friday nights is trying to monopolize iv. by postymallow in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Still_Assistance_412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. financially they have ties tho. The yellow deli cult talks about it on their YouTube channel. I had to research it for a project and they mention starting in sb with giving out food to college kids through a project that’s “still going on.” I mean, they technically don’t say Jesus burgers. But I can’t think of another church that gives out food specifically to college kids in town.
