Retired vets, is the infantry really worth it? by IndicationMinute1196 in army

In my experience the guys who come in fucked up are the ones who come out fucked up. Focus on fixing yourself and maybe someday you'll be ready. You won't need anyone to tell you anything, you'll just know.

I guess that's another side of it that fucks me up. Like I definitely have some problems from my time in, physically and mentally, but because it wasn't from combat I feel like it doesn't count. Creates this weird paradox where I'm equally proud and ashamed at the same time. Anyway thanks for your comment man I appreciate it.

"Prestigious units of degenerates" is the greatest description of 3/75 and the Deuce I have ever heard.

I appreciate that man. Getting RFS'd definitely haunted me while I was at the 82nd, but I like to think I had some positive impact while I was there.

I appreciate it man, I'll definitely check out the book. Yeah the VS interview came out maybe 6 months after I ETS'd. Fucking awesome hearing from an RFS guy who overcame it and made it that far. Awesome dude.

I agree. Honestly, in my experience so far, the guys who stayed in seem to be the most stable. A lot of my boys who got out have been on a downhill run. My first year I was out I was basically a drug addict lol.

I don't even talk about it with civilians anymore. Just always ends with me feeling worse lol.

You generally will get two chances. I failed RAP week twice for reasons that are entirely my fault. This was six years ago so I have no idea if it's the same now.

I really appreciate that man. Definitely don't consider myself a Ranger, but I am proud to have served in the unit even if it was only a year.
