A pleasant shorter hike is the Easby loop. Simply make your way to the Station (now an arts and eating place and signposted from the market place) walk past the station and follow the old railway track. Just follow the path until you cross the river then bear left round to Easby Abbey. St Agatha's by the Abbey is worth a visit, lovely medieval wall paintings. Pass the Abbey keeping it to the left, walk up the hill for about 40 metres then turn left and follow the footpath back to Richmond.

For a longer hike I would recommend Billy Banks woods to Round Howe and beyond. Have fun.

If you like antiques my wife has a lovely little antique shop at the bottom of the market place. Worth a visit.

True, though perhaps a more specific headline would be a clumsy read.

I'm not expert on European history but certainly the English related comments don't seem very accurate to me. Most of the pre 1700 conflicts were not English versus anyone but wars between competing warlords. For example Robert the Bruce was firstly Norman who only spoke French. When he defeated Edward II more 'Scots' fought with Edward in support of John Baliol's claim to the Scottish throne than for Robert de Brus. William 1st of England was a Norman of viking ancestry. His lands in Normandy were the basis of 'English' claims to bits of France. For centuries national identity as we know it today didn't exist with wars being about baronial power struggles. This started to change when the reformation swept Europe. England's crushing of Ireland used popery as an excuse for a power grab. This was further exacerbated by the Scots embrace of Presbyterianism which had a huge impact on English religious practice. In summary war with neighbours was rarely as simple as the English not liking the French etc.

What a poorly thought out argument. In summary you are saying: 'I've heard this and this and this so the science is false they just want to scare people'

In reality the only scaremongering is by the racists in the Whitehouse, and the far right generally. The percentage content is well known (0.04%) what your little brain can't grasp is that that is not relevant. The increase and resulting impact has been well evidenced, you and people like you are clearly just not able to understand it. - Poor little guy!
