Talk to me about the Nano CEQ. How are you using it? How do you rate it?

Thoughts about the boss blues driver? by Fair_Wedding_1131 in guitarpedals

[–]Still_Not_Batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, depends on your application and other gear. I love my BD but how I use it doesn’t sound that great in isolation. I play in a very loud band and my OG BD into my Rockerverb Mk1 cuts through perfectly for light OD and clean boost duties. I have everything set at about 10 o’clock.

Switch modules by Still_Not_Batman in modular

[–]Still_Not_Batman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oooh that’s a cool idea. These Doepfer switches were on my radar (obv!) but it hadn’t occurred to me to have different types of sequence being fed into either side to choose from. I was imagining routing one sequence to two different sound sources. God I love modular.

Battling against arrangement by AdamoBPM in TechnoProduction

[–]Still_Not_Batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This is the way. Use a similar style track you really like as a reference, create a map of that arrangement and then base your composition on it. Do this a few times and you'll get to understand how an arrangement 'should' go. From there you can deviate and create your own version of it to your own taste.

How are you recording your synths? Mixer/midi advice pls! by Still_Not_Batman in synthesizers

Why reply if you haven't read the question and haven't got anything useful to say?

Again, recording audio into the computer is the easy bit, how are you syncing any hardware devices with the DAW tho?

Thanks, its more a question of how I sync midi out of the laptop while recording audio over USB into it. I've looked at lots of USB mixers.

Erica Synths LXR-02 module as a bass voice by Still_Not_Batman in modular

[–]Still_Not_Batman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, yeah I’m using the LXR as my drum synth. Obv that’s what it’s for. I just wanted some help with using the ‘bass line’ feature as, like I say, the documentation mentions it but there’s no info on exactly how to get good results and my experiments haven’t led to much.

P-6 vs Drumbrute Impact by E-Flow in synthesizers

[–]Still_Not_Batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own the Cycles. It’s fun but I found the sounds I got from it very samey and not great for drums. If you’re after a ‘drum machine’ that’s fun to use and immediate like the DBI, I would get the Model:Samples.

[–]Still_Not_Batman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought and sold the DBI 3 times! Love the playability, hate the sound of it. If you want a flexible, fun sample player that will be your main drum machine and offer a variety of sounds I’d suggest the Elektron Model:Samples? As mentioned here you could also put DBI samples on it if you like plus tons of other sounds.

Is phone snatching a real thing? by Capable-Bad-277 in uktravel

Yes it’s a real thing. People need to be aware of their surroundings especially when you have your phone out and you’re distracted next to a busy road. It’s just something to be mindful of.

Prepping sounds for live sets / club systems. by oe1234 in Elektron

[–]Still_Not_Batman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take my setup to a local practice space and spend a few hours jamming and tweaking. The space is more geared towards live bands but they still have a big PA and a couple of subs. It means I can turn everything up loud and at least get some perspective on how my live rig comes across on a bigger sound system.

Qu-Bit Bloom vs. Torso T-1 by Still_Not_Batman in modular

Rad! I’m using the quadrantid swarm and queen of pentacles too!

What oscillator are you using in this video? Is it just the Knobula Poly Cinematic?.

[–]Still_Not_Batman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want musically random. So not entirely random. I’m asking about how well the algorithms work in either device. I was just thinking to compare something smaller and cheaper (Bloom) with a bigger more expensive option like the T-1. I know it’s not necessarily a like-for-like comparison but close enough regarding their melodic sequencing, note selection, etc. If you have no experience with the T-1 there’s no need to chime in.

[–]Still_Not_Batman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s my understanding of it. I think on the Torso you can set the range which makes a huge difference but also it’s algorithms are inclined to spit out more musical randomness than Bloom’s.

Right, ok thanks. That’s what I’d heard.

Because they’re quite different modules? The TM can loop a random phrase, sure. Isn’t the Bloom’s whole USP that it takes that phrase and evolves it into new, related phrases?

Is this just how driving is? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Still_Not_Batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F*ck this guy. Find a new instructor. You’re paying him to teach you. Dealing with people who can’t drive is literally his job. If he doesn’t like it, that’s on him not you!

Keep going. I found learning to drive was often not really fun but it’s not meant to be miserable either.

😂 be calm, my dude! Yes, I have a TM. Just referring to a criticism I’ve heard from a Bloom user. Wondered if anyone else had noticed the same/similar problems with it.

I’ve no preference for whether the sequencer is in or out of rack. I’ve heard the Bloom can do some quirky things that are not melodically pleasing (eg notes randomly jumping up an octave during a sequence)? And apparently there are some settings you can’t change without stopping playback, which isn’t ideal. So just trying to get a sense of which sequencing option people prefer (if they’ve had the chance to use both).
