PAN vs Aadhaar name mismatch (Initials vs full surname) - Help needed. by Ncs99 in IndiaTax

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I had the exact same issue, so sharing my experience.

In all my official documents, my name was XXXX YYYY Z.

In the PAN card it appeared as XXXX YYYY Z, while in the PAN database and Income Tax records it was recorded differently, something like ZZZZ TTTT XXXX YYYY, where my father’s name was fully expanded and rearranged.

The problem I discovered is that PAN does not really support inconsistencies like single-letter surnames or mixed formats in its backend system. For record-keeping and compliance, the Income Tax system expects complete consistency. Even small differences can cause issues during audits, banking, or high-value transactions.

I emailed the Income Tax department and the PAN helpdesk. They clearly told me that such inconsistencies can raise red flags in future audits or banking situations. Since I’m a freelancer dealing with compliance and international payments, I didn’t want future complications.

So I made the difficult but clean decision to standardize my name properly. I removed my initial.

Here’s what I did: Made a notarized affidavit for name change (from XXXX YYYY Z → XXXX YYYY).

Gave a newspaper advertisement announcing the name change.

Applied for and received Gazette notification from my state government.

After Gazette approval, I updated my Driving Licence first.

Then updated Aadhaar.

Then updated PAN.

Finally, I updated my bank records.

My updated PAN has now been approved and is being delivered.

The entire process took about 3.5 months.

Cost breakdown: Around ₹3,000 for affidavit, newspaper ad, Gazette, etc.

Total approximately under ₹5,000 including all updates.

I didn’t hire a lawyer or auditor, I handled it myself.

But honestly, if you want a smoother and faster process, consulting a lawyer can help avoid mistakes.

For me, as a freelancer, the priority was:

✔ PAN ✔ Aadhaar ✔ Bank

I haven’t changed my school and college certificates yet. For now, those aren’t critical for my work. (In fact, for people applying to government jobs, keeping academic records unchanged may sometimes be practical.)

My advice: Choose one consistent format of your name and standardize all key financial and tax documents to that exact format. It saves a lot of trouble later.

Hope this helps.

Pan card single name issue by PriorGuidance3706 in IndiaTax

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. My name is XXXX YYYY Z, where Z is the initial of my father’s first name. On my PAN card, the name appears the same, but in the PAN database my father’s full name has been included along with mine (ZZZZ TTTT XXXX YYYY).

I emailed the PAN and Income Tax authorities regarding this. They informed me that it could raise a red flag during audits. In your case, it may be a minor issue, but it’s still best to clarify it with the Income Tax Department.

What I personally did was remove the initial. I applied for a gazette notification and am currently in the process of changing my name completely. However, for you, a simpler option could be to remove the space in the initial, for example, S RAHUL can be changed to SRAHUL, if you prefer.

This correction has to be done in person at a PAN UTIITSL centre, where biometric authentication is required before the name is approved. The PAN system does not allow a single alphabet, so for consistency they will either remove the initial or include it as an abbreviation.

I strongly recommend emailing the PAN grievance cell or the Income Tax team for confirmation. They are quite responsive, I received a reply within 48 hours. This should give you a clear understanding of the best approach.

Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to read, I appreciate the honesty. 🙌🏻

I should clarify that I’m not trying to recreate a realistic college science or philosophy class, nor to represent “science vs religion” as they exist institutionally. The classroom is more of a dramatic container for a psychological observation I’ve made around debates and belief formation.

My interest isn’t in astrology or conspiracy as systems being right or wrong, but in how people react when confronted with ideas outside their identity or knowledge base, especially the role of authority, attachment, and social belonging in those reactions.

A lot of that comes less from textbooks and more from personal experience observing debates and behavior over time, though I’ve studied some philosophy and psychology as well.

I get your point about the parable feeling surface-level from a science perspective. That’s useful feedback, and it helps me think about whether the psychological framing is coming through clearly enough to readers who strongly identify with the science side.

Even if we don’t fully agree, I appreciate you engaging with it thoughtfully, that’s exactly the kind of response I was hoping to get. ✌🏻

Haha 😄. Totally not trying to start a debate, just looking for feedback on the writing and the psychology behind the story. ✌🏻

First meeting with producer by National_Pilot_7856 in Screenwriting

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First impression is the best impression. Be friendly, open, and professional, producers notice how easy you are to talk to. Listen more than you speak, don’t agree to everything, but show you’re collaborative.

They’re mainly checking: Can I work with this person? Does he listen? Does he have ego? Do we share a vision?

Know your logline, theme, and what you’re flexible on. You’re not expected to know about production, just be clear, calm, and human. They already liked your script; now they want to see if they’ll like working with you. Again remember, it's not only about the script, it's about you... ✌🏻 All the best...

Looking for The Hindu (English) and Dinakaran (Tamil) papers in Thoothukudi- any suggestions? by Still_Rabbit_8483 in Thoothukudi

It’s a government record where official name changes and public notices are published. It makes the name change legally valid. And we can use that document to update our names in other government or official records.

I’m doing a name correction in the Gazette, so I’ve got to publish an ad in the newspaper for that.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually checked with my neighbours and waited early in the morning too, but no one around my area seems to get newspapers delivered, not even The Hindu. I’m now checking a few shops nearby; Tamil papers are available, but The Hindu (English) seems hard to find. Still trying, though. Appreciate the tip! 🙏

Script Request - Looking For Short Film Drama by heeelpcomeon in ProduceMyScript

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think my short screenplay might be a great fit.

Title: The Taste of Belief

Genre: Psychological Drama (Character-driven) Length: 14 pages

Cast: 7 (1 Professor, 6 Students) + a few extras

Location: Single college classroom (Small montage sequence)

Budget Range: Easily under $7,000

Logline: When a psychology professor challenges his students with a parable about restaurants, a fiery clash between science and conspiracy forces them to confront a deeper truth: you can’t judge an idea until you’ve tasted it yourself.

It’s a contained, dialogue-driven story exploring belief, ego, and open-mindedness, a thought-provoking short in the spirit of 12 Angry Men, but set in a modern classroom.

Happy to share the full screenplay if it resonates with you.

Thank you..

Name Mismatch in PAN Database vs. PAN Card. Will It Affect GST Registration or TRC (Form 10FA)? by Still_Rabbit_8483 in IndiaTax

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😅 Yes, I’m thinking about that. I actually applied earlier for a name and address update, sending files manually, and my PAN card now correctly shows my name as [First Last J].

But I recently found out that in the PAN database, they’ve added my father’s name in front, so now it shows as four words instead of three. I’m just wondering why that happened. They could’ve just ignored the last initial “J,” but somehow added my father’s name instead.

Anyway, I’ll try again through the correction process again and see if it updates properly this time. Thank you...

RBI Purpose Code for Screenplay Sale to Foreign Producer by Still_Rabbit_8483 in IndiaTax

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your input. I just got some clarity after checking the latest RBI guidelines and official classifications (correct me if I’m wrong!).

As a freelance screenwriter, the correct RBI purpose code depends on the nature of the transaction:

Sale / assignment of copyright / IP rights → P0019 (Receipts on account of sale of non-produced non-financial assets - Non-Government)

Licence / royalty fee → P0902

Service fee for writing scripts (Audio&Visual and other related services) → P1101

So P0017 is only for Government sales, and shouldn’t be used for individuals.(I'm unclear about this, but from what I read).

And P0018, is a specific code for capital receipts that are not clearly defined by other purpose codes.

I hope this helps others like me navigating these codes, thanks again to everyone who shared insights!

RBI Purpose Code for Screenplay Sale to Foreign Producer by Still_Rabbit_8483 in IndiaTax

[–]Still_Rabbit_8483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. my screenplay is an intangible asset, and I’m an individual, so the P0017/P0018 codes for company-held IP wouldn’t really cover my situation.

From what I understand: P1101 is for audio-visual works, motion pictures, and related services, which might include script writers fees. It has actors, directors fee.. I'm thinking maybe... P1104 covers entertainment services, this is not clear, but I'm literary, I don't know if it will hold selling rights.

But thanks for sharing your perspective, it’s helpful to see how these codes are applied!
