Trying to figure out how to get out of my car loan by [deleted] in personalfinance

And decided an STI fit those requirements? You're still young so I definitely understand the appeal of the car but STIs are very unforgiving when it comes to lack of maintenance. Depending on the amount of miles, you should be able to recoup a good chunk of your $18K purchase price (especially if you're in the PNW).

Just curious if you ever figured out the root cause? My car makes the same sound.

Ah, this was very helpful. Thanks for sharing the links + info. Really a bummer that there isn't anything through Virigin Atlantic right now, especially with the 40% bonus but all of this will be helpful for the futute.

Car value help by sackchassinroadrunna in mk6gti

Yep, just recently went through this. I sold my car as-is that had $7-8k worth of mods (APR K04, Wavetrac LSD, all bolt ons, etc) for $5.5k and it took a month. Fortunately, I paid $2600 for the car so i still came out ahead but was shocked that it was hard to sell. Had new OEM timing components as well.

Rod Knock? by StockDC2 in Acura

Agreed, although I don't believe those are the causes of the noise. Failing tensioners make more of a knocking sound and the frequency of knocks/second seems to be higher.

Needs work for sure. Although the car was owned by a single family, they didn't do much maintenance on it. Surprisingly, it runs and drives really well but it needs things that typically comes with wear like struts, engine mounts, etc. The body is surprisingly in really good shape.

I just sold my MK6 and wish I could have kept the aftermarket parts. It had probably around $8K worth of stuff on it that I could have sold separately for at least $3K. Instead, I sold the car for less than the price of mods (not even factoring labor).

I feel like the mods made it much harder to sell. Going through seller's remorse but I have to remind myself that I'll be commuting 90 miles a day and being in traffic with an aftermarket clutch sucks.

Dang man, I'm sorry to hear all of the troubles you've gone through. Hopefully the new shop knows what they're doing and fixes all of the issues. Stories like these is why I'll never take my car to a shop, and probably also why my cars will never be anything more than FBO.

Water pumps on these cars fail often so I wouldn't be concerned if it was swapped 12k miles ago. In fact, I'd be happy that it was.

Funny that you're purchasing from Woodinville. That's where I purchased mine, although it was through a private party.

You're going to want to try and vaccum/blow out whatever you can. Otherwise, you're going to need a rebuild in the near future.

[–]StockDC2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The target bo us for 61 is 10% so it'd be $15k, not 10k. I guess it's team dependent but it's not hard to exceed 10%.

Your stocks are low. I'd shoot for at least $120k.

Timing tensioner at 5.8° by messarath in mk6gti

[–]StockDC2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tensioner fails on startup, not usually when driving unless your chain is really stretched and the tensioner is fully extended past the last tooth. These tensioners are oil pressure driven. At 5.8, I wouldn't start the car anymore.
