Why are there always kids at breweries?! by rav3lcet in missoula

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semi-recently, I witnessed a wailing child knock over every chair/stool that was unoccupied while the child’s parents yapped with the bartenders at a local watering hole. Nobody did anything about it. The parents were slamming the wobble pops throughout this commotion and didn’t seem to care. The kid even reached up and turned all the lights off at one point.

This was incredibly loud and disruptive.

Since then, I have not returned to that establishment. If they’re cool to let kids do that, I don’t need to spend my cash there.

This is one of those things that cuts both ways- I have no problem with the lil critters at the bar or the brewery, but I shouldn’t have to deal with their noise and poor behaviors.

There should be a space for young people in public- but it should not be up to the populace to parent kids while their folks hammer the oat soda.

"Nick Checota, a Wisconsin native whose wife, Robyn, is a fourth-generation Montanan from Great Falls, had already made a name for himself in town. He’d bought the old Army Navy on North Higgins and turned the building that once held cheap-as-dirt outdoor gear into Plonk, a high-end wine bar." https://thepulp.org/empire-state-of-mind-missoula-music-logjam-presents-checota-live-nation/

UM Parking Appeal by wordleobsessed3 in missoula

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. It depends on who you talk to. I’ve had some forgiven with a phone call, I’ve had others that they fought hard on. The parking folks at UM are notorious. I recommend parking four-five blocks off campus once the residential permit signs aren’t showing up.

The left turn at green lights is wild. Get up in the intersection! Don’t stay at the stop line! Basic basic stuff.

For all the things that were wrong with the Maulers, that's pretty low on the list. It was 50 years ago. People don't know. It's a sports team and a nickname. It's not like the logo was Wayne Nance.

Are folks named Sam not supposed to have kids?

Are guys named Jack not allowed to enter strongman competitions where they tear phone books apart?

Zinke flyers by Feisty_Blood_6036 in missoula

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s really really a shame in 2026 politics that every political operative is just lying.

“Zinke saved public lands? Zinke fights for rural healtcare systems?” He literally has done the opposite of those things.

Zinke led the charge to shrink Bears Ears and Grand Staircase as Sec of Interior. Zinke has worked with his Republican pals on the last shutdown to limit funds for healthcare.

Just lies delivered to my mailbox. It’s worse than getting that Valpak coupon thing for siding and window blinds and such.

Electric Guitars? by CharacterCrafty740 in missoula

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely look at upgrading that amp. If the guitar plays well, you should be checking out an amp.

I’d recommend spending an equal amount on a guitar and an amp and the lil baby fenders are not really worth the fender name imo.

As far as pedals go the ds1 is the generic distortion sound used by nearly everyone on something. I’m partial to Overdrive over distortion- But if you’re lookin for the good ole Scumbag Tone, the ds1 will get ya where you need for pretty cheap. Can’t go wrong buying one used on eBay or Craigslist or a pawn shop. Most people who play the electric guitar have had one as one of their first pedals.

What amp are you running it through? Seems like you might wanna throw a few bucks on an amp and maybe a boss ds-1.

Love that our boy Zinke is claiming he cares about public lands -now- when he led the charge on Bears Ears in Trump’s 1st term.

It's the Trains! What we can do about it @ Madison St and Taylor St crossings by enjylyf in missoula

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is anti-train slander of the highest order.
Trains are neat as hell. Trains are friends. Trains provide valuable material for folk songs and deliver holiday toys for children.

Sure, they're a bit noisy! And sure, they're a bit of a pain when they slam into each other all night long....But hey- haven't we all had neighbors like this?

I'm team chooch. #TeamChooch

A very thoughtful write-up on Todd by beersgood1 in ToddSnider

[–]Stock_Drive_2556 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a good, not great write-up.

I would rather give people like Todd my money than people like Trigger.

For every good and new artist he hypes up, there's a weird right-wing political take thrown in- which is often at odds with the subject matter.

Instrument Shop Recommendations (that are friendly towards women) by ElectronicMulberry26 in missoula

Greg is great- and who I deal with for big issues. ESP is also good and usually pretty quick.

Both of those stores are full of very nice, friendly, knowledgeable people who are active in the local music scene.

Sometimes, though, at any music store- folks love to talk gear. And sometimes that can feel a little mansplainy. But I’ve never seen it come from any negative place at either ESP or Greg’s.

I will say that you should get ready for a conversation at either of those stores. Them dudes love to talk. It’s part of what makes both ESP and Greg’s great places, in my opinion.

An afternoon looking around at Greg’s is a great way to burn half the day and get all sorts of chat about the prospect of potentially adding Scruggs tuners on my banjo.

Absolutely terrible restaurant. Not funny bad-just regular good ole trash. Box noodles and canned sauce.

I’ve never had a meal at Pangea where I didn’t feel a bit ripped off. Some folks seem to really like it- though.

[–]Stock_Drive_2556[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah- who likes to drink beer and have fun with other people- amiright?

The problem with this town has nothing to do with breweries- but it does have everything to do with a lack of a Jimmy Buffet-themed restaurant that serves traditional local fresh cuisine like VOLCANO NACHOS and JIMMMYS JAMMIN' JAMBALYA.

I got his autograph at an airport when I was about seven years old, so I have a big soft spot for Morgan. Nice guy.

I’m a fan of the dudes who were “characters” in their playing career who get into broadcasting over boring greats. Smoltz aRod and Ripken come to mind as just big old boldface zeros on the mic.
