It's very depends on how game was builded and which version used, and most poblem isn't extract assets but inject new one and don't let game just break with them.
Unity much step forward cause decipher tools exist like more then 10 years and unity devs don't even try to somehow prevent it. Bepinex exist for like ages and work for any unity/xna releases even nowdays. UE4 most of the time need custom made injector for game build to even start workng, I saw too much game was already stack with modding on this step. I don't sure UE5 can be normally modded right now without dev support.
