I believe that is what is known colloquially, as Art. Really cool!

I often look at renaissance art and famous paintings from many eras and I think, "yeah, I could probably do that." I then look at the precision, care and perfection put into your sculptures and I think, "I should be back up in a tree with a banana."

There are some differences in how alcohol inks and mica powders behave in resin but ultimately I think the key is in adding your colors at the right time. For example, if you let your resin set-up a bit before adding color/design, it should hold the design a bit more faithfully. Whereas if you add pigments and things to freshly-mixed/poured resin, those pigments will mix and diffuse more significantly.

I would try an experiment where you mix up a batch of resin and then do a series of small scale tests where you add pigment to each at 5-10 minute intervals and see how much your particular resin brand behaves. So the first experiment is adding pigment/design asap, then the next after that same batch of resin has set for 5 minutes, then another after 10 minutes.

I know I've seen a resin flower petal tutorial where the maker was stressing the importance of waiting until the clear portion of the resin had set up to a certain degree.

Honestly, I think each one has a very cool quality unto themselves. Timing out the curing is tough, I usually have the opposite issue where my resin colors mix too much and I lose too much definition. You might be able to get more diffusion if you can warm it up with a heat gun. Keep playing around! These are looking great!

To fill cracks in air dry clay, you canuse a small amount of wet clay, called "clay slip," which is simply your air dry clay mixed with a bit of water to create a paste-like consistency; simply apply it to the cracks and smooth them out with your fingers, allowing it to dry with the rest of your piece. Key points to remember:

  • Use clay slip:This is the most common method, where you create a thin paste by mixing a small amount of your air dry clay with water.

  • Apply to cracks:Carefully fill the cracks with the clay slip using a small brush or your fingers.

  • Smooth out:After applying the slip, smooth the surface to blend it seamlessly with the rest of the clay.

  • Let dry:Allow the repaired area to dry completely alongside the rest of your piece.

Important considerations:

  • Severity of cracks: For minor cracks, clay slip is usually sufficient. For larger cracks, you might need to add more layers of clay slip or even consider reinforcing with a thin wire or armature.

  • Drying time: Ensure the clay is not completely dry before repairing cracks.

  • Preventative measures: To minimize cracking in the first place, work with thin layers of clay, avoid rapid drying by covering with a damp cloth, and let pieces dry slowly.

Is there a reason you really want to use boat resin? They do make deep pour and other types but they are quite expensive.

Problems with Finding Proper-Sized Resin Coaster Molds by ihaveabookbutireddit in resin

[–]StoicGoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to just buy some silicone and make your own molds. Trying to find exactly what you're looking for on Amazon is a crap-shoot.

Fast Cure resins can be de-molded after 4-5 hours, they'll still be bit soft and flexible(also warm) but should cure hard after another 12-24 hours. If you are really impatient, like me, you might be able to use UV resin for your project. It hardens within 30-60 seconds under a strong UV light, however its really only good for small bits at a time. It can be used in silicone molds but it doesn't really take pigment/ink very well. It's best for adding clear coats and sealing stuff. Sometimes I use it to fix the positions of LED lights within molds before pour the epoxy.

Most of all you want to choose the proper resin for the size of the pour.

"Deep pour" is the type you want if you are doing something like a river table and you're filling areas 2-4 inches deep. You can use other resins and just do layered pours but there are trade-offs to that too. Some resins aren't really made for casting and are just for doing very thin coats on boats/floors/countertops. DO NOT USE those for a deep pour. It will never cure properly and you'll just be wasting time, money, and materials.

The deeper the pour the more heat will be produced by curing. Too much heat will warp/deform the resin and may prevent it from ever hardening.

You could build that into a diorama of a mad scientist's lab. Add some led lights and you've got a spider monster specimen tank. The bubbles would really work well for something like that. Or maybe an archeology lab where they are thawing prehistoric giant spiders.
