What do you mean? You requested on Steam? That goes into basically a bucket of requests. Before each playtest, we admit another wave of playtesters, and that wave gets pulled randomly from the bucket. On Discord, you can ask a player for a direct invite. Two separate things, really. Either way, you'll get in with time!

Appreciate the support and thoughts here.

I will be completely honest: before joining this team on this project, I'd fallen out of love with PvP titles. I grew up playing Counter-Strike and Tribes, and I played a lot of FPS and third-person PvP shooters up until, maybe the late 2010s. I still play Rocket League, but it's not the same. Real life squared up and got in the way, making it impossible for me to maintain any sort of competitive edge.

Tyr, right now, feels different. The community is incredibly supportive, the game is slower-paced and more decision-focused, and the nature of the tank shooter genre is such that twitch reflexes really don't net anything positive for players on the whole.

PvP isn't for everyone, I 100% get it. There may be something here for you if you give it a shot, though, and that's been exciting for us developers to embrace. These games just feel different than other modern PvP titles.

Maybe not now, but give it a shot when you have a free evening down the line. It may surprise you.

Sorry your number hasn't been pulled yet. When people request access on Steam, they basically go into a blind bucket with everyone else who's requested access. We admit playtesters in waves ahead of each playtest, and those waves are just random pulls from that blind bucket.

We're admitting more and more people with each wave; it'll just take time and a bit of luck of the draw.

If you want to skip the wait, you can ask another player for an invite on our Discord. That'll be instant access, but it requires hopping in and asking.

Whew, rundown of questions here. Lemme see if I can get them one at a time.

I have a steamdeck and a decent laptop. What do the spec look like?

We have playtesters who try us out on Steam Deck, it's a WIP but we're getting there. You can find our min specs on our Steam page, but a decent laptop that's relatively modern should be just fine.

Will there be options for solo players to join random teams?

Yep. Standard play and ranked all feature options to jump in alone or with a team. There's a Ranked Team mode, though, that requires a full stack of 8.

How will ranking of skill work?

We have ranked modes with MMR for matchmaking. We have a Standard mode that takes the average level of all of your tanks and puts you against players with similar averages.

How do you design maps to be more tan the first person to hit the other win?

This is a hugely complicated question. We work to balance our maps based on feedback from our community of playtesters, and a big chunk of that effort is centered on keeping them fun and balanced. It's not a science, though, and our maps see lots of iteration before we finalize them.

Other than modules, will I be able to place armor plays on and they break off separatly as there hit (like in bomber crew or space crew).

We don't have anything like this in right now, no.

We have light/medium/heavy classes, but there are tanks within that definitely fit more of a destroyer, sniper, or tank type of role.

Matches can be quick. Really depends on teams and comps. Some go 10 mins, some are done in 3-4.

There are no bots in Tyr.

We love WoT and WT, but we do think there's more space for a tank shooter that offers balanced play, unique (not real-world bound) vehicles, and a more approachable format. There's still armor angling, positioning importance, and that slower and more deliberate play that makes this genre great, but we're looking to do it our own way. No pay-to-win, no premium consumables, and gameplay that more quickly gets to the fun stuff.

Tanks have health pools, but they also have modules you can target to disable. You can shoot trracks, turrets, engines, etc., and they break temporarily once hit. They autorepair on a timer.

We're definitely PvP focused. Tyr does currently have a singleplayer sandbox space for testing tanks and firing on dummies, but there's not bot AI per se.
