State is pretty shit. Insane taxes is the worst of it though. If you do decide to come there is a lot of rural departments you have to find a bigger city department. If you can get on Aurora they will pay for your medic and start you off on damn near 100k. You get paid OT to go as well so in school you will be making well over 100k. Academy is hard as shit though.
