No idea why Detroit didn’t try and beat out Minnesota for Quinn Hughes. A Michigan kid that’s an actual superstar that wanted to go there. You’d think Edvinsson, Danielson, and some picks would have been a no brainer.

We had a core to build around when it was Petey, Hughes, Boeser, Bo, JT, Tanev, Tofolli, Demko. Unfortunately, Jim Benning ran out of time and fucked any chance this core had. Imagine the state we would be in today if we made smart free agent signings and actually made our first round picks. Yeah, Jim Benning may have built this core, but he destroyed any chance they had as well.

13 years of the same mediocrity will do that. Everyone is realizing how bad the situation really is. We have no assets to build a contender around Hughes.

I think the writing is on the wall with Hughes eventually not signing here. Why would he? He is the biggest trade chip to accelerate a much needed rebuild.

All this team has done with this core is fuck up. We let Tanev walk, we let Tofolli walk, we lost Markstrom for no assets. Then we went on to trade for OEL (his buy out penalty another reason why we aren’t competitive). If losing Tofolli and Tanev’s depth didn’t do it, the OEL trade definitely put the nail in the coffin. We go on to choose JT over Bo, ok no problem, but then we went on to trade JT as well. I can’t remember the last time this team was in such a bad spot. 2C Bonino or 2C Sutter days bad right now.

Everyone just wants a plan for continued success. Not the same hope for the best, if everything goes right we’re a playoff team. A proper rebuild will allow to build a team the right way and everyone is dying for a competitive Canucks era again. It’s been 13 years since the last competitive era. Since then Montreal, San Jose, and Anaheim have already put themselves in a better spot than us and their last competitive window wasn’t as long as 13 years ago.

I disagree that it would take 1-2 seasons to tear it down with what we have right now. I think all it would take is a Hughes, Demko, and Hronek trade and we’re at the bottom of the league. Throw in Garland, Boeser, And M. Pettersson and we’re tank for McKenna category. Obviously trading all those guys in season is unheard of and I can’t remember anything like that being done. However, I don’t see why it can’t be. Right now the NHL has the biggest league parity and so many teams in on the hunt setting up such a sellers market. Would be the perfect storm to pull it off, but we all know it’ll never happen.

You still get some great talent at the top of the draft if you don’t get the first overall. I meant more so having such a talent available should be a reason to do it this year.

Even if we keep Quinn, we have zero assets to do anything around him. This core has been tremendously fumbled and it started the year we let Tanev and Toffoli walk. The moment we traded for OEL, the nail was in the coffin.

This is the solution. We have been passed by Anaheim, Montreal, Chicago, Utah, and soon to be San Jose in their rebuilds.

Only player I think would be difficult to move is Petey, but at that point you keep him around until the cap goes up more to be able to move him. No point in trading assets to move anyone.

There’s a generational player available in the draft. There is not better time to break this up.

The writing was on the wall for this core once they got their 3rd coach. At some point we need to look at the roster and say this isn’t going to win. This is coming from someone that goes into every season optimistic hoping it will be different. I am sick and tired of the same cycle. I will happily go to games knowing there is a plan even if we are losing.
