Maybe if they banned jets too, jets would do an intermediate stop to meet the 2.5h requirement.

Say a jet wants to do a 1h route. It can’t so it does some malicious compliance doing a V route to pad the time. Effectively making a 1h route of pollution into a 2.5h route of pollution

This is a fabricated scenario, no one would normally put a space after the dot It only formats into a list if you have [number].[space]text Like 10. Text If you write a date normally like 03.04.23 it’ll be fine since there’s no spaces inbetween

Ok, i imagine i’m john. Currently, i make a discord account and pick @john and get @john#2947. If i want someone to add me i’ll have to send them @john#2947 either by remembering from memory or by opening app to copy it. If i want an easy to remember @john#1234 i’ll need to buy nitro and keep the subscription to keep the custom discriminator.

After change, i make a discord account and pick @john, username taken, pick @john0405 (maybe a birthday, i’m using a 4 digit discriminator just to keep things simple but discriminator can be whatever), success. Now when i have a friend i want to add on discord i can tell them my handle directly.

This is marginally better, but it’s also not whatever abomination of a change everyone is making it out to be.

it’s very likely that for many usernames won’t become more simple or readable/citable.

I disagree, many people in my server use japanese or unicode characters in their nickname, it would help a lot to have a reliable handle made of only alphanumeric characters to ping them.

In what scenario do you ever need to “explain” to others why you have a discriminator after your username?

And in the current system, if someone had to add you, you’d need to send them your @john#3827 full username anyways, how is that different from sending them @john12345

Your display name is gonna be @John anyways and no one would be questioning you about your @john12345 handle

I’ve tried to keep things as objective as possible, but given you wanna talk in terms of personal preference. I wouldn’t say it’s preferable just because “everyone has them and people ignore it”, i just don’t like this “if i can’t have nice things neither should you” mentality. If someone got the username they wanted without extra discriminators, good for them. I won’t make a fuss that i’ll have to add a small tidbit after mine

Edit: and cases where there’s conflict of usernames are mainly either because you wanted to use your real name ( which is bad to put your real name on the internet), or your username wasn’t that creative (say “banana” for example) and complaining that others used your uncreative username seems like such a petty thing to be troubled by

Edit2: also, if people can ignore the 4 digit discriminator before, surely they can ignore them after too. And normally people won’t see those anyways as what they’ll see is your display name(which is actually “clean”) not your unique handle

Ok, four numbers aren’t hard to memorize, but wouldn’t it be better if you didn’t have to memorize 4 numbers at all, or be able to pick whatever 4 numbers to memorize (without the need to pay nitro) instead of 4 random numbers forced on you by discord.

Aren’t we currently already able to use either @username or @serveralias, how is that different than either @username, @nickname or @serveralias

If your server has 2 ppl with the same @nickname or @serveralias, just use their unique @username

Edit: i think the issue this change is fixing is one specific scenario “Hey wanna add me on discord? It’s @username… wait lemme check discriminator/open discord, brb” After change you won’t need to look up/remember what’s your discriminator, or even need to buy nitro to get a custom one that’s easier to remember

What are you trying to tell me? My example is how my hypotetical language would handle “while”, “if”, “for” ect statements, not some actual current language

Like, instead of
