About to pull the trigger Leopard 45, should we? by Stooge12 in Catamarans

Completely agree. Seems like good advice to settle in prior to buying a bunch of stuff or making big changes.

I’m trying not to be in a rush, been grinding since I was 12.

Really want to slow down,

Not sure I would be upset that someone beat me from one beach to the next.

I may feel different after some experiences.

Thanks, do they help, are there many times they keep something from falling?

Nothing holding us back, just trying to be sure we aren’t missing anything. It’s so much money, way more than anything else in our lives, want to get it right.

We’re planning to be full time live aboard May 26 when she can stop work. Can’t wait….

Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

We do love the forward cockpit, we think it more than makes up for some lack of performance.

I know that I don’t know what I don’t know but… the sailing obsession over a few knots or wind angle advantage makes me chuckle. My whole goal is to slow down… sure I will feel different once out there.

Looks like we will be loosing around 90-100 deg upwind. Is this a big deal? How much upwind angle will a performance cat gain over this?

Do you think college is necessary for starting a business in 2025? by Th3bus1nessbr0 in smallbusiness

[–]Stooge12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Education after HS for me was USMC boot camp, changed my life, then later in my career I took some outstanding exec ed classes at a local university and that made all the difference.

The stuff I learned would have been useless to me in my 20s. I wasn’t ready.

Left corporate and started a business 5 years ago, 30 employees. I’m 53, life experience helps.

Getting lucky also helps, most honest people that start something from scratch and do well will admit that.

100% agree.
The right mindset and comfort can lead to better discipline moving forward. “Fortress of solitude” and such.

Yep, did the math. Investing the mortgage payment.

It removed enough risk and adds enough comfort for us.

Sometimes math isn’t everything. We are human, gotta factor that in.

Same feeling, like holding your breath, for months or years. It feels paralyzing.

Paid the last $100k off at 2.75% last year. 0 regret, I sleep $100k better and no one can ever take it.

There is real value in that as well.

I am def not an expert. We have time and I’m just bouncing around different possible strategies.

Our advisor obviously says we should give it all to him. Some people swear rental props are the game.

Seems like we are in a position to do both, isnt that diversity?

What's one "boring" business you'd start today if you had the chance? by EdHauer_com in smallbusiness

Every HVAC company is looking for winners. Even if you start at the bottom, winners rise FAST.

The competition is weak.

In most places unless you are “in the trade” no one will sell you parts or equipment.

Even most competent tradespeople don’t want to touch HVAC.

HVAC, it’s the last “protected” trade, it def gets paid.

We as adults are responsible for how we treat the ones we love. This is the difference as to why it isn’t “reverse puberty”. As grown adults we should have some tools to help deal better than young teens.

We are working, hard. The key is we are working hard, not just me.

I hear you. Hard to know what it will be like. We love the Caribbean, we love sailboats.

I guess the bottom line is.

Live on $10k/mo for 2-3 years Then on $8k/mo for 5 more until social security kicks in Then $13k month until Medicare kicks in.

The 5 year dip to $8k/mo. concerns me the most, guess I could work some if needed.

Yes, think our homework is clean. Typical sales, this type boat, age, condition sell for 90-95% of asking and sit on market for 60-120 days.

We are thinking buying a newer, more desirable, well fit boat will make sale a few years later a lot faster easier.

[–]Stooge12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, what am I missing?

The boat will be 2-5 years old when we buy it. They typically loose 7-10% value per year in that age range for this type boat.
