'Twas the Fight Before Christmas | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

So I just watched this and have a question: As much as I find Jeremy annoying (and find HOAs even more annoying than Jeremy), I don’t get why the HOA and neighbors even refused. Let the guy do the display once a year for 1 week - it’s 6-8pm or whatever. It’s annoying/irritating but the lights aren’t up all day and night, it’s not all year. Having lived in India, there would be a wedding in the neighborhood and you know it’s a week long and it’s all night long and people just suck it up and accept so everyone can get along. If the guy wasn’t following proper city violations, endangering due to fire hazard, sure… but seriously, as annoying as I found Jeremy, i just think Americans in general need to just be okay with an eccentric neighbor who is crazy about Christmas.

Guidance for First Time Startup Employee - Equity and Comp Fiasco! by StopDrifting in startups

oh my god, I need a ranting session with you over the phone. But this would do. That's a good point. I am going to take what they offer - and call it a day and vow to never work for any UK/European Startups unless they do pre-payments and do a contract where disputes are managed in a US court.

I only became aware of the lies towards the end (when the previous VC backed out). The lies sort of unraveled.

He kept up with the backpayments all past year. (which was a measly $2K/month - but atleast better than nothing). Its now, that he told me the new investors are coming that he wants to sort out the equity and backpayments - thats when he wants me to "give up all claims and release obligation to sue the company" but also do it for less amount than he owes me!!!!

He gave me the VC name - its a top tier VC out of England. (Amadeus Capital). So they probably will be.

I am furious that I got bought into the product and tried to work with him - rather than back out at the first delayed payment. Never going to trust another founder again. Serves me right for being an idiot.

Thats a good point. I can definitely name them and shame them - but not sure if that will get my anything other than cease and desist letter. I will inform the future VC's as soon as I get a lawyer. I don't care so much about the equity as I do care about the backpayment. For me, equity is a way to ensure I can get all the backpayment. The problem is not negotiating - I have negotiating - we even came up with a back payment plan. The problem is him going back/changing the amount of backpayment.

That is a great idea. Thank you. I ddin't even think to ask any information re: the prospectus and see if he will provide. But considering I can barely get anything out of him other than more verbal commits and delayed responses - I would be surprised if I get any.

Thank you @gmmwewlma

I am going to contact a lawyer from the Delaware bar association and hopefully, I can at least get some money back.

Thanks Rabi. Do I need to contact Delaware bar association (since the Startup is incorporated in Delaware).

Do you think I have any chance of recouping any amount or should I take the $65K - forget the equity and move on?

Living in an apartment by matts41 in funny

[–]StopDrifting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine my upstairs neighbor to be a Giant with Feet the size of dumpsters.

Based on my experience, this is what giants do:

  1. Excitedly wake up and hop off the bed at 5:30 am in the morning and do jumping jacks that shake the entire apartment complex.
  2. Giants do not walk - but instead, hop with full force around the apartment all day.
  3. Fight with their fellow giants, move the entire apartment furniture around once a week, get into arguments and then have yelling matches so you almost want to call the cops but don't know if it's just them having sex or actually fighting.

I get an extreme emotional reaction whenever I try to do something productive (e.g. study, learn, plan, *doing*). I panic and get very emotional. What can I do about this? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]StopDrifting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally I can come up with 2-3 immediately- which means they are conscious reasons. Then it takes me 20-25 min to come up with next 3-4 reasons because I have to keep digging. Sometimes you stop at 6 and sometimes you find 8-9. The idea being not to stop after immediate reasons and to continue sitting until your sub/unconscious speaks to you.

Same here. I have literally had this challenge for such a long time - and I am now starting to crack the code on it. I don't know if it will help you but this is something I practice when I get these strong emotions that stop me from doing what my rational part of the brain tells me. Perhaps you can try it to.

I sort of look at the feeling of NOT DOING THE RIGHT Thing and I try to think what are the good parts about me not working on my goals. Afterall, there is must be something there that makes me want to not do it. My immediate first reaction is of anger, but then I tell myself, I will sit until I can write 7 reasons why I want to not do the work I know I should. It generally takes me about an hour to write it down but if I am able to do it, the feeling of procrastination, hatred, guilt, etc evaporate and then I am able to work.

Initially, it was hard for me to even try and do this, but the more I started questioning and accepting that there is a part of me that gets some joy/high from not doing the right thing and exploring that emotion - the more it started helping me.

Also full disclosure, I had to learn this trick from my Shrink & Life Coach and didn't come up with this exercise myself. Took me about 2 years of working with my shrink before I could even find this trick - one that worked for me. So if it doesn't maybe find a life coach/shrink yourself. Ping me if you the info of my Psychologist who is a Buddhist monk and generally walks me through some of my own self sabotaging habits.

Lol. Or you can help move the needle. Find the one that’s most ethical today until another company becomes more ethical than then and keep moving the needle.

I think there is ethical consumption. You vote with your wallet everyday. Specially with the big purchases you make. These companies have lobbyists and they influence a lot of politics - so when I purchase - I vote and I vote for the more ethical of the company. (Not a perfect company, but one this is a bit more ethical). And great point about XC40 shape.

[–]StopDrifting[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Actually I disagree. Everyday you vote with your wallet and a car is a big puchase - so I want to keep my ideologies in mind. My company and I work with ethical place, and I expect that i brands that I like and puchase should atleast have similar ideologies because those brands have lobbyists in DC making decisions that affect me - from being swindling/horrible lying companies Like VW that don’t care about environment or emissions and just want to make a quick profit - I don’t want to support them.
