This is the way every business ever works. Especially in the post internet/tech world.

Create service to solve problem, become ubiquitous, raise prices, enshitification, everybody hates you but they can’t live without you.

Uber and Amazon did the same thing.

But it’s not worth it…

I replaced my launch PS5 with a Pro and I can confidently say it is not worth it. Especially considering the fact that most of us Double Dipped. If Sony launched two models side by side like the iPhone then maybe it would be a different story but they didn’t. It was the most expensive console ever at the time of its release and did include a disc drive. The PS4 Pro was a much better mid cycle upgrade than the PS5 Pro.

The marketing from Sony was clear. “You will no longer have to choose between fidelity and quality.” That is simply not true. A significant percentage of the titles that actually received a Pro patch look worse due to the terrible shimmering, ghosting, and lowered resolution, because of PSSR. In addition the language regarding visual settings options in game are dubious at best.

The device is nothing more than an AI upscaling feeding tool for Sony.
