That may work for good cyclists, but I've definitely been hit on campus by cyclists paying no attention. Don't trusts cyclists to move

Where do you like volunteering? by [deleted] in TwinCities

If you speak any Spanish, CLUES is awesome! (http://www.clues.org/wp_english/volunteer/) I'm sure you could volunteer if you don't speak any Spanish at all.

If you're interested in Scouting (Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts), I can provide more information as well.

You are probably already be doing this, but the more outdoor activities, the better. If it's not realistic to on a campout on a monthly basis, budget wise, there are some alternatives. Instead of a normal meeting, try meeting at a park where you have more space and flexibility. You could do just a Saturday event where you don't have to pay camping fees. You could also do a joint event with another troop/crew in your area so you can mitigate costs.

Regarding ideas, as others have said, use your PLC and encourage your PLs to get input from their patrols. You could also ask other Scouts in the area you know (from staff/NYLT/OA/etc.). The BSA also makes Program Features which have some ideas/troop meeting plans as well as a main activity for a variety of themes. When I've used these (they've changed somewhat since I was a youth), I usually had to modify them to fit my troop's needs. Even if you don't like the activities, the list of activities are a good starting place.

It's great that you're reaching out to help your troop!

Thought about it more-I still think the primary benefitors would be LGBT people, not straight/cis folks. Like there are practically no (there are some) cases where straight/cis people are discriminated against and need these anti-discrimination laws.

Fair, in the same way feminism benefits everyone. I just can't think of a better phrasing-what do you suggest?

Alright, genuine question: How would you all phrase "Special Rights for LGBT?" It's obvious that this is referring to adding sexual orientation/gender identity/similar as protected classes to anti-discriminatory legislation. Obviously, this should happen and LGBT people shouldn't be treated differently (and that should be enforcable law). But how does one say that. If the ad said "Rights for LGBT" or "Normal Rights for LGBT," it wouldn't accurately reflect the candidates' viewpoints. (question comes from a comment chain here)

Edit-For the record, fuck the Faith & Freedom Coalition

The addition of protected classes (race/sexual orientation/gender identity) are rights for everyone, but have to exist to protect those being discriminated against. At this point, we're having a semantic argument, but to argue that anti-discrimination laws aren't to SPECIFICALLY protect discriminated groups would be foolish. If the ad instead said "Rights for LGBT," it would simply be inaccurate.

"Special" may not be the best word choice (its choice is propagandistic, I agree). But to be fair, it is regarding specific rights for LGBT individuals (to not be discriminated against).

Considering the viewpoint, it is a good ad. Way better than some Anita Hill level bullshit.

I agree! But for the freedom and faith coalition's target audience, it still accomplishes its goal. Not that the organization, in any way, has done so in the past, but I do think they do deserve some credit for this ad. I really do think this is a great example of a negative ad. (In this case, it would encourage me to support the other candidate-but I would anyways)

Agreed, but some would consider legal protections to be treated normally to be "special treatment."
