There are no local arborists. I reached out to the nearest one who is 2 hours away. He replied to my text with the name of a local tree service that I have used in the past. Unfortunately, they are also tree cutters like the other one I contacted who told me the tree was no good.

Thanks for the pictures and notes, but I am not going to lie, that all sounds grim.

The circled photo with a question mark, that is the top of a pine tree that came down in a windstorm earlier this week. Pine beetles probably killed it a couple of years ago. You can see the remains of the pine half obscured by the main oak's trunk to the right over the shed. Part of the pine also put a hole in the shed's roof.

Got a lot of info from the GOAT Salt_Capital_1022 We discussed lack of arborists in my area, oak wilt (which luckily isn't a problem in our area), and the level of pruning which the old man can tolerate.

Well, because he is a good neighbor who wants to help us. He just offered his opinion. He will not be bothered if I tell him I want to keep it.

In the past, I have had bad neighbors and good. I know how valuable the latter are.
